I specialise in haircuts for men who look fifteen years younger than they really are!

haha you'd need a sponsorship in super glue to sort me out ! :D

Matt did run 4 reference 290Xs, so he knows what is hot and seeing the Fury X temps, no wonder he is really happy :D

I bet EON have hired a hitman. He's probably using more power than half of Hampshire :D

Hehe, this is true Greg. They did run hot for sure, so now running at 50c is a big difference. The 290x cards cost £230 each though, so at least they offered good bang per buck.

I see you're now familiar with using a hot and loud card though. :D

Can't argue with loud but hot it isn't and if I wasn't being so lazy, I would just pop on my waterblock for pure silence. And I would take a TX everyday of the week over a FX for 1440P gaming. The FX just isn't fast enough for me. I would have liked to try it at 4K and give it a fair run but I didn't really want to give up G-Sync to grab that Philips 4K 40" monitor and as much as I am still umming and arring over it, I think I am settling on this system till Pascal.

Maybe AMD will have a faster card on 14nm so fingers crossed for that.

Well i'd say 50c is a bit optimistic, the 2 i had were getting up to 56 or 57, still cool but 50c seems to be only in very specific scenarios, and that was with a 140mm Sp fan pushing air onto the other side of the rad.

I think the Fury X has spoilt me because now 80c or higher seems hot. Never thought I'd be saying that 6+ months ago. The 295x2 and now The Fury X have changed my perception on what is hot and what is loud.

Yer, in a few of my tests, the temp was high.

No overclock and in a very good case, with excellent airflow. Temps hitting 58c in this very short test.

Couldn't agree more. I'm giving up Gsync which is going to suck, ain't gonna lie. Mind you, my mins should be far higher with the one new card so hopefully Vsync will cut it.

I do run a DP monitor, so hopefully there will be a Freesync hack or something.

50c is definitely possible, but I'd suggest 55c under heavy load for silent gaming. Under lighter load you can drop the temperature though and still keep things very quiet.

I'm going to work on a kb for Amd.com and the Amd forums soon to examine The Fury X gpu temp and fan speed targets in ccc. You can customise any temp you want the gpu to run at using the maximum fan speed of your choice. Power tune does the rest. It's a great little feature!

I don't hide my fanboyism's and very open about it but AMD have done a good job with this card as seen in my review and I hope they can go on to bigger and better things and they have shown a glimpse of what HBM can do. They have also turned me into a bit of an AIO fan and not something I ever felt I would say. I would like to see them toe to toe with Nvidia and both of them trying to outdo the other, it is us consumers who would win in the end. Keep up the good work AMD and I will be back when 14nm is sorted.

I think I'm still recovering from the pump noise..

If I close my eyes I can still here it :D:p

Might be tempted to try another AMD card in the future, but way way in the future so I know pump noise is def no longer an issue.

Auto fan on the fury x is only around 950 rpm iirc. You'd barely know it was on.

You do know it's on if you have faulty pump. The sound that drills into your brain and never leaves..

Yeah AIOs are epic on GPUs dude. I tried really hard to cool both of my Titan Blacks but the bloody hoses didn't reach.

The only thing that worries me with AMD Fury X is that it's a 4k GPU and 4k users can be counted easily on one hand. Just like Bulldozer they've made a bit of an oddball product and it could take ages to actually catch on. Surely they don't have the cash to keep making prototypes?

Thankfully at 4k the tables are absolutely evened, with there being less than 1% throughout all of Bit-tech's testing. It's the same elsewhere, with the gap raised to 2% overall when you test a load more games. And that's nothing tbh.

I'm not worried about the 1080p and 1440p performance levels even if I have to drop the res. They're more than good enough to provide stutter free gaming :)

I'm an Nvidia fanboy. I really am. I could count how many AMD cards I've had over the past few years on one hand. 90% of my purchases since Nvidia first showed up have been Nvidia. They got off to a rocky start with me by running off their mouth and giving it the biggun, but once we got past the FX 5900 series they have been really good.

BTW when I say fanboy I mean fanboy, not a bloody rabid dog trained to defend his owner no matter what. I like Nvidia cards and I like their drivers ! that's where it ends.

But after what they did with the 970? I have issues with empathy at the best of times but seeing a good few people I quite like around the forums I visit getting screwed wasn't good. I vowed I would not reward Nvidia for that and I have stayed true to that. I will admit that my time with the R290 was actually excellent. The drivers went on first time and the FPS were just as good as one of my Titan Blacks, all very impressive.

I highly doubt I will Crossfire the card. I just want hassle free now that I've finally got a few new decent games to play (been whizzing around in a kart in Pcars and have started Metro 2033 Redux as well as playing lots of Borderlands).

So yeah, can't wait for Friday really :)

I'll do some testing at 4k and let you know my findings. Not benchmarks just an overall impression...

Yup, annoying getting 2 dodgy ones in a row :(

In 2 minds wether to keep my 295x2 for the time being or possibly make a move to an asus strix 980ti and get a second later in the year. At boost it seems to be around 295x2 performance in some of the games i play, though the game i'm sorta getting into (war thunder) doesn't seem to support crossfire so only getting around 30fps in that maxed. The pricing on it though is ludicrous, i can find it for $659 so uk pricing seems to have just changed the dollar sign to a pound sign, in america the msi 6g is actually more expensive than it....says it all.

Yeah the lack of stock and no guarantee that another card would be whine free is what pushed me to get a 980 Ti.

If you already have a high end GPU maybe you could hang on until stock is better and pump noise is def fixed. I think we'll see some AMD price drops sooner rather than later as well. Might be worth giving it a few weeks.

That said you can't go wrong with a 980 Ti if you do choose that route.

I really like the Fury X, the pump thing just killed it for me. Might try again though, like I said in the future though when I know the pump thing is well and truly done lol.

Here you go. http://www.legitreviews.com/amd-radeon-r9-fury-x-4-way-crossfire-setup-benchmarked_167338

Would love to see yours, don't think I've ever seen you post a rig shot.

In fairness that just looks like a normal Phanteks case with graphics cards in. Doesn't look like you've heavily modified the case at all (as in the photos from the Wiki link you posted for cases, http://thehottestgadgets.com/2008/05/25-computer-case-mods-00432, most don't show but there are 3).

I think the Fury X has spoilt me because now 80c or higher seems hot. Never thought I'd be saying that 6+ months ago. The 295x2 and now The Fury X have changed my perception on what is hot and what is loud.

Maybe this is why you and me couldn't agree on the 290s being loud and hot? I was coming from quiet watercooled GPUs perspective and you were coming from AMD reference cooled cards (which haven't been great since, well, a long long long time ago).
Of course I think you said back then that noise isn't an issue because you use headphones and temps are fine because they're supposed to run hot. But now your opinions have changed? :)

I think I'm still recovering from the pump noise..

Knowing you that means August, at which point Nvidia will become the devil again and their hardware will be mediocre compared to your new AMD card. It wasn't that long ago you were the only one waxing lyrical about the Fury X!
Now, what's coming out in August? Fury X2? :D

Might wait on the fury but if you read amd's statement on it they don't really say the issue was fixed, they say "largely reduced". Thats despite some saying their cards are totally silent.

When its all said and done quality control and going with the lowest bidder really bit them in the ass, would be nice to see them get it sorted and out in volume sooner than later.

Fury x 2 could be an option but it depends on how much its cut down from 2 single cards, was already mentioned in an interview it will likely run at lower clocks.

Nano, fury x2 is later in the year.
