I use Handbrake to encode my DVDs, but not archival quality as I keep the quality slider for the AV1 encoder towards the middle as it's only me watching them. I find that ~30 minute episodes tend to be around the 150MB mark which is perfect for me.

I don't use any of the denoise filters as they tend to just make the video look smoother and I found the colours in some videos looking a bit flat like a cartoon.

The only filter I use is the deinterlace - I choose Decomb then use the EEDI2 preset. This is somewhat slower than the other deinterlacers, but I found it was the most reliable one which also kept the image looking respectable. Have a play around as your mileage may vary.

I'm not a great believer in using GPU encoding as the files are a lot larger. I'm happy enough to keep a batch of jobs running during the day when I'm doing some bulk encoding - which is roughly every 3-4 years as software, codecs and filters improve.
