According to Steam, only 20% of players finish BG3.
I imagine that's because of 2 reasons.

First is that as a single player game, due to its length, it could get a bit boring and over whelming towards even act 2, that you may give up. I don't know how people play it single player given each fight you have to organise all 4 characters.

The other being that for those playing it in coop, it's a lengthy game, and to find time to play it is one thing, but if you jsut got together and played it 1/2 evenings a week, it would take months to finish, and by then you could easily forget where and what you were doing.

I played with my partner over the Xmas break, and if it hasn't been for that big gap of nothing to have to do for 2 odd weeks, I don't know how we'd have got it done

You finished the game in 2 weeks? It's taken me 3 months.

Finished. Just under 300 hours, almost all of those on the Steam Deck.

I enjoyed Act 3 just as much as 1 and 2, in fact more so in some places; for me the shadow-cursed lands grated a bit after a while. My party throughout almost the entire game was a Dark urge human fighter as avatar, Shadowheart and Gale pretty much constantly and Astarion/Lae'zel depending on whether I needed more tankiness or not. Mainly because I just loved the characters and their depiction. I toyed with other characters occasionally just to progress their stories, but I honestly wish I hadn't, in fact in general I wish I hadn't played it with a completist mindset and just relaxed and gone with the flow for a few reasons, firstly because it would reward more playthroughs with the other characters, but also because you can easily max out at L12 right at the beginning of Act 3. That would be my main advice to anyone starting out- relax and play the story, go with your instincts when you make choices, and don't try to find everything in one playthrough- you'll have more fun.

A mate of mine missed Gale and Lae'zel altogether on his first run, then went back and found them in another playthrough. I'm kinda jealous.

Brilliant game though, absolutely epic in scale and worth every cent in my book.

I resumed today. Was like level 3 or 4 with my characters. It did not grab me immediately. But I know I need to play for a few hours to immerse myself in the world.

Hope I do get into though and it is not another divinity original sin 2 which I could never get into even though I really enjoyed the first one.

I really need to try and revisit this. I played about an hour. First main encounter went crap for me and that annoyed me so I turned it off lol.
I'm not into D&D or these type of games but wanted something to play as I was bored.
Ended up being one of the best games I have ever played.
Did help to read a few guides just so I knew the mechanics but after the first few hours it had me hooked.

I do wonder how many people get tempted to try real D&D by games like this. Sadly I suspect it's very few.

The rules themselves might form the framework and mechanics of computer RPGs, but D&D, (or any other role playing system) with a decent DM is a whole other level of fun and infinite possibilities.

From what I gather dnd games are very open for you to decide to do whatever you want? I prefer games that have a bit more guard rails personally, but I'm sure I'd still have a great time playing dnd with a good dm. Games like gloomhaven imo are more appealing

Depends very much on the DM and campaign you play. Typically you run through a hardback adventure (of which there are loads!) so there's a consistent story to follow and whilst you can do anything you'll probably find yourself guided gently back to the correct path.

Think of it perhaps more like a Hitman game - a scenario presented and a task to accomplish and you get to choose if you go loud/quiet/talk your way out of things etc.

Happy to run something for the curious in here. Single session adventure (3 - 4 hours) with pre-made characters all online :)

Are there platforms online that facilitate this ? ( beyond just using Discord ). Has anyone here played Demeo ... it's a DnD lite co-op dungeon crawler ? Can be played in VR too.

Somewhere in the middle.
I'm pretty bad when it comes to games where things can go wrong. Stealth games too, I enjoy it when things are working out but if I slip up and set alarm bells ringing I tend to rage and restart the level.

If someone dies or I lose too much health or I use items I maybe didn't need to then it tweaks my brain!
