Buddy asked me what to upgrade to. He wants to move to a newer DDR5 system.

I’ve been told that intel 14th gen can’t be beaten in games, but the 7800x3d is relatively cheap is some shops.

He won’t be waiting for the new CPU’s to come out he wants to buy now. At the same cost of a 7800x3d what’s is intel’s offering and is it worth it?

se he picked up a 7600x haha, is was via BGrade and means he did have to get his credit card out and will upgrade to the 5800x3d latter.
he's upgrading from a 2600x so the upgrade is still massive

is there anything he need's to do with a 7600x is turms of power or is it just set CO and firget

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £350.00 (includes delivery: £0.00)

He ended up grabbing a BGrade 7600x because it was very cheap and he didn’t have to use his credit card.

Something inside his system gave a puff of smoke out that whys he’s upgrading and going will a few new ddr5 set up he doesn’t trust his old hardware

There is a reason the 7800x3d is the best selling cpu, because it the best gaming cpu with insane efficiency on a socket with a future. Intel is really not an option for new builds, AM5 all the way.
yes and no...

i now have a 7800x3d and i am a CPU and GPU Whore but this ad better be the last AM5 CPU i buy... it wont be

but in the real world where you make a 5 to 7 year pc intel 147/900k is a very good option. when you upgrade in say 6 years time 15 gen will not be an option.
and in the same way if i was to drop a nut on a new system with a 78/900x3d on a 5 to 6 years upgrade schedule the 9XXX CPU's mean nothing.

people go on about dead sockets, to 90% of user's it means nothing if the socket as no next gen. i would dump my 7800x3d for a 14900k in a hart beat

I would not drop a 7800x3d for anything Intel.

to me that just sounds like fan boy crap, dont take that the wrong way but if you was offered a system swap to a better cpu and it is better end off. if you was to say no i mean come on.

i mean talk about dead sockets people are still specking and buying am4 and LGA1200

lol why have you an am5 rig yet wetting you pants over intel who is clearly the inferior platform.
it cost 2/5's the price its all be BGrade it cost penneys

Why would I swap the faster game cpu that uses hundreds watts less power for the same 8 core with joke e-cores and a boost clock that crashes when playing games lol.
its not the best CPU is it. it just games good. don't confuse the two.
some people like dont just game, that work and stuff like that

hundreds watts less power
i assume you still use a 5w charger on your phone because the 20w one like so much more to run..
i gave zero poo's about power usage.

what GPU do you have? like a 3050? because them 4090 use bear power

After moving to AM4 I went through a number of worthwhile low cost upgrades which cost me very little, 1600 > 3700X
you have to remember up until the 5XXX cpu's you was still under intel 6th gen core performance. so all the little upgrades was needed.
i went 6900k to 1700x massive downgrade but i didnt know that at the time

I'm undervolting my 5800X3D for the record
well you have to.. i had one there hot if not they slow down.

4070 is not a super fast GPU so yer it use's a low amount of power, it is a sensible choice. but it can get upto 275w's or the tuf model i had would do 275ish in bench marks.

your not the best option for my augment haha, like i said there is people with 4090's that go on about the amd chips using less power.. like come on... you need a small reactor to run your GPU and your chatting poo about 90w's in game load on a CPU

that's crash free when gaming

AMD doesn't crash? why don't they advertising that its a big selling point....
Also you should tell that to the unreal engine that i fight with constantly

why dose intel crash more? or are you refecting to the NV driver fault thats crashing on intel cpu's... because it you want to talk about drivers AMD enters the ring as world champ to crap drivers

but what alternative do you have from 4090 kinda performance ? you have choice with CPU's for best gaming performance As I only game i would choose x3d why would I want to use more power if I dont have to while still not missing out on performance ?

If you have a 4090 are you gaming at 1080p that’s where the x3d chip is best. At 1440 is about same same both sides win a few at 4k its nul

I have a 7800x3d but not ones did I think it uses less power this is the coy I need in my life.

its the overall package not just power but thats one of them

if you run a 100w cpu at 50% for 8hr's a day it will cost you £26 a year to run that's the difference with a 7800x3d and 14900k
if you set the stock intel power limits, the difference in running the cpu's is about £1 a year, if you run the cpu at 200w power limit its about £22 a year

you guys are talking like it needs a second mortgage

to take this to a stupid level your "Samsung G7 240hz 1440p" will almost double the power of a 100Hz monitor, so why are you not running a 100hz monitor

It's important to remember that the AM5 platform has longevity. Even as of 2024 AM4 is still receiving new CPUs and bios updates.
if you building a top line pc by the time its really time to replace it the socket should be dead. AM4 is a bit of a strange one as AMD still have a contract with TSMC to make chip thats the only reson

Also what I like about Ryzen is that every core is of equal power. I don't like this e core p core stuff.
8c vs 8c with extras i dont understand how the extras are bad?

What are people expecting from the next ryzen cpu’s if you have x3d then you can’t upgrade to a none 3d chip so when the new ones come in say a year to 18 months what’s do we expect 10% or are we hoping for more ?

Let’s not forget intel are now working on stacked

I did upgrade from a x370 mobo to a x570 mobo during that time, but according to the website for my mobo it wasn't strictly necessary as the 5800x3d is supported.

so when you decided to buy the x570 is was a dead socket. X570 came out for the 5000 chips and done. but you talk about socket lifespan

we all need to remember when AMD was going to kill off the first chip set but then had to offer bios updates due a to a technicality in the socket advertising.
AMD was going to keep the AM4 socket but kill them with different chipsets.

i had an X370 and 1700x and remember the kick off about them saying you neeed a new board for the next chips. was it 2XXX or 3XXX one of the two

You should read the thread title, OP was asking for 'best cpu for gaming' :)
you should also. the thread is done. when they popped up saying the 7800X3d is the best CPU in the world... its just not both the 7900x3d and 7950x3d and better and at everything other than gaming the 14700 and 14900 and way better.
but think you for joining in an augment days late that's already sorted

also at 1440 and 4k it actually an even spread, so depending on the games and res its really not that simple.
im about to sell my 7800x3d on the MM as its very good but not in my game/use case and i will switch back to my 7700x that as a faster core speed and the game i play like that over the extra cache
