Time for the annual shout for the FIA to re-implement the fast, 3-chicane layout that Barrichello won in spectacular fashion in 2000.

More than anything, we need more variance in the track designs which will often favour different teams, we need more high speed tracks to supplement Monza and Spa.

Theres already an article on Autosport to that effect.

That kind of track doesn't work with todays F1 cars. Just look at Baku. Even with that massive straight you still needed DRS to make overtaking possible. Slipstreaming to overcome drag is no longer a 'thing' in F1. They had the chance to bring it back in the 2017 rules, but blew it.

Radio ban has been lifted for this weekends GP. About time I think.

fully lifted?

They just need to stop messages of "break 0.2ft later into turn 7 and turn wheel 5 degrees more blah blah" them messages were telling drivers literally how to drive.

Just allow them to help fix car problems.

Not there, but here
A statement from the FIA read: "At the request of the teams and the commercial rights holder, the FIA has agreed to adopt a more liberal approach to the interpretation of article 27.1 (that a driver must drive the car alone and unaided).

"With the exception of the period between the start of the formation lap and the start of the race, there will be no limitations on messages teams send to their drivers either by radio or pit board.

Is it a total ban? Telling drivers where their team mate is breaking in a corner needs to be banned... but any problems mechanically etc. with the car should be allowed.

If it's completely lifted and drivers go back to being "puppets" then that's ridiculous.

Driver coaching was right to be stopped, but not allowing teams to give assistance when car issue arouse was stupid.

Exactly, i'd hope there was some mitigating factors such as that they couldn't get revised guidelines in place for the GP, but it just seems that they've gone right to the polar opposite, which wasn't right either.

No-one wants the drivers to be hand-held around the track, but it's rather obvious that they should be helped to resolve car issues, particularly where safety is concerned.

Can these clowns honestly sit there and think, "we've done a good job for the fans with this new set of radio rules." More rubbish. All we'll get now is driver tuition radio messages.

oh MB shut up.
utterly strict track limits is stupid, make a mistake go wide then get another penalty.

Horner is right, either let them use what they want or use bigger kerbs/less run off area.
for me the latter solution is what is needed.
tracks have gone to safe.

Every aspect of F1 has gone too safe which just happens to coincide with it also getting too boring.

Totally agree there needs to be a penalty for failing to stay on the track and it shouldn't be an arbitrary thing decided by an official. Make the curbs bigger and watch the drivers suddenly learn to stay on the black stuff!

Glaucus' argument is that if there is a penalty for going off the track then we will see "300 drive throughs a race" as everyone apparently makes mistakes and goes wide all the time.

Yet surprisingly thay all seem to (almost) manage to not crash at every corner in Monaco or Singapore, where the edge of the track is defined by a wall. So clearly the drivers can do it if they have to.

So, the answer is to penalise the drivers when they go off track. Either police all the track limits and time penalty them if they cross them, or make going off the track slow and damaging due to proper kerbs, grass and gravel. You will soon see all the drivers stay well within the track then (some people pushed the limits last weekend, but the net result of policing those few corners in Hungary saw.... zero penalties).

To be honest I don't really care which option they take any more, just so long as they do something. Having a rule that is sporadically and inconsistently applied is just a joke.
