Not well at all, ignore the Nvidia sales pitch from AthlonXP1800 he trying to normalise an extreme to sell you the card, replace the 290 with a 1050TI and you will take a hit in performance, even a 1060 which is much faster is a side grade.

At the least you should look for a used GTX 980.

I bet you never looked at current listing of used GTX 980s sold prices over the last few day but the average price people buy used GTX 980s was £200 range.

Used R9 290s were sold in £150 range average price and used GTX 970s were sold range from £150-£180 average prices.

Look like prices had gone up over the last few months because of brexit.

Kainz have tight budget probably less than £150, he cant afford a used GTX 980.

Best wait 2 hours to read reviews first before reach conclusion.

Pascal seemed the best cards for quiet PCs and HTPCs because of very low temp at full load.

When I had MSI GTX 970 Gaming, fans was spinned in every games when temp reached over 60C, one game DOOM saw my card ran very hot at 85C. But everything changed with MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X I was very surprised the fans did not spinned in lots of old games when temp was 55C. I ran MSI afterburner to manually tuned fans to running all time and tested many games, when I tried Star Trek Online and I was stunned to see temp was 35C which is 2 time lower than GTX 970.

I absolutely loved my MSI GTX 1070 Gaming. :D

We will have to wait and see to reviews see if Pascal temp on Samsung 14nm are lower than TSMC 16nm or just much the same.

He asked how well the 1050TI would do against a 290, if he wants to change he could probably do a side grade to a 970 for sub £150, a 1050TI is a big step down.

PS: if you were seeing temps of 70c to 85c on your MSI 970 there was something wrong with it, I have never seen temps above the low 60's @ 1500/1950, including doom, with the stock fan profile, which is not loud by any stretch.

70C is about right and perfect normal for MSI GTX 970 Gaming.

Actually my PC case do not have any case fans, never needed it unless PC ran too hot but I wanted it to run very quiet as silent as possible.

On par with RX 470 in some games at 1080p!!! WOW

That explained AMD is panicked decided to cut RX 470 price.

Wow GTX 1050 Ti faster than GTX 1060 3GB in Rise of Tomb Raider 1080p.

Hmmm GTX 1050 Ti OC performance at near 1.7GHz is much close to RX 470.

Here Guru3D review:

OC to nearly 2GHz that could possible match RX 470 performance and also faster than R9 290.

What? the 470 kicking it all round the room and bounces it off the walls for good measure at 1080P.

Are you just saying this crap to wind people up? IE to troll? are are you literally hallucinating what you want to see?

The RX 460 is a lot closer to the 1050TI than it is to the RX 470.

The 1050 doesn't come close to a 470, even in games that favour Nvidia cards.

Still interested in one for my HTPC, though. :)
