Are you downloading the correct one for the size of your drive as there are four different versions listed..?

Going to try again.
This time I am going to use a Proper DVD drive with SATA(not a USB external one)

Flashed with USB, no problem at all. I used Universal USB installer to create a bootable USB drive.

Flashed to new FW. No issues as always with Crucial's FW releases.

No. The firmware is updated but your data is left intact. It's sensible to back up first, but if it works like it should you'll lose nothing.

cool, mine was showing 7.7 when before the firmware it was 7.9... however i noticed it changed my bios to ide mode (i def did not change) so switched back and ok... odd

Can anyone explain what AHCI mode is, and why people use IDE to update? Completely clueless as I'm setting mine up in the next few days. Do I need it on a USB to update the FW, and can I do this before W7 install? Thanks.
