I have just ordered last night the Samsung 950 Pro 512Gb M.2 (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...3.0-x-4-nvme-solid-state-drive-hd-216-sa.html) as my 840 Evo SSD is on its way out.
Having just come across this thread and now realising there is a 960 due soon do you think I should cancel my order and wait? Is there any information on price, release date, performance etc? I would be looking at around 512Gb again.
No details on price nor dates. I keep hearing next few weeks but rumors are well, rumors. Price no idea either, I would have thought the EVO model would come in a similar price point to the 950 Pro or a slight premium, they do share the same controller and what not, but own gut feeling. I expect the 960 Pro will be quiet a bit more.
The specs are on Samsungs site and the 960 Evo does offer a bit more higher speeds then the 950 Pro.
950 Pro - 512GB
Sequential Read: 2,500 MB/s
Sequential Write: 1,500 MB/s
Random Read (4 KB, QD32): 300,000 IOPS
Random Write (4KB, QD32): 110,000 IOPS
960 EVO - 512GB
Sequential Read: 3,200 MB/sec
Sequential Write: 1,800 MB/s
Random Read (4 KB, QD32): 330,000 IOPS
Random Write (4KB, QD32): 330,000 IOPS
the 1TB 960 Pro has slightly higher speeds then the 512GB and the 960 Pro once again has higher speeds then the corresponding EVO model. 950 Pro is still a blazing fast drive regardless.

I would hold off if you can and wait a few weeks. I may even buy the oem 512gb version instead for £199.
For me I would wait if I knew we are talking just a few days up to a week but I need to replace this drive asap. As no one knows for sure exactly when the new ones come out I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I was in the same boat. But with nothing confirmed on U.K. Pricing, and no release date from Samsung, I went with the 256gb 950 Pro. Have to say its damn quick, so happy with my choice. But I may look into a 960 in 6 months.
£329.99 for the 512gb Pro and £299.99 for the 500gb Evo.
Think I'll just go for the oem version the 961 for £200.
With the exchange rate being what it is, that pro pricing is 1:1 with the Dollar. But the EVO pricing is seeing some additional value added to it. Its $250. For the cost difference i would have gone for the Pro.
Pro is due end of this month, we expect the USD/Pound ratio to remain at 1.20 for that delivery.
EVO is not expected until December, as such with margin being slim, were using a USD/Pound ratio of 1.10 expecting pound to weaken further.
