What is the point of this?

I looked at the bits in my motherboard box and found this front panel connector thingy...

What's the point of it? I've already got my power button, power LED and reset switch from the case connected to the motherboard without using this adapter. Is it just to make it easier to know what each pin is for?

Yeah, it is just for ease of use and is less fiddly, especially with a small case where it is difficult to get at them when installed.

my old asus board came with one of those new one didn't i was cursing asus, just makes the job so much easier having that little block

I guess it could be handy if you sold the motherboard without the manual so the new owner would know what each pin is for without searching the internet. I just looked in the manual and connected the case wires directly to the motherboard.

Makes it easy as you can plug all the fiddly little wires into the block, and then just plug the whole block into the motherboard header socket.
Can be a god send on tight or small PC cases.

Should be a mandatory feature if you ask me!

It does make it slightly easier, my Z790 board came with one, but wouldn't say it was an earth shattering difference.

Also makes it easier to disconnect and reconnect it from/to the board should you need to.

I have never used them as it makes the most untidy wires in my case look even more untidy by raising them up even further.

Hopefully, if it is plastic, you can also twang it on the edge of a desk, shortening it etc, to make different tones.
