I'm assuming the lights on in the town in the photo posted below in the comments (for scale) are people who have no been evacuated? If that gets bigger and bigger then things could get hairy for them :S

Doesn’t seem too disruptive so far. Flights running into Reykjavik still.

Not the kind of eruption that typically produces a lot of ash, though that could change, but it does seem to be producing a lot of gases - which could have an atmospheric impact (usually cooling) in the months ahead.

My heavens, that is hot looking lava. Very hot, very fluid.

Volcanoes are the big killers in history. We have been lucky that there hasn't been a large eruption for, oh, 70,000 years or so?

It's getting quieter now and people are getting closer, cool stuff. Didn't know eruptions happened every 4-5 years though.

Pressure relief, but I assume that once it's settled down it's a lot harder for magma to follow the same route again thus it has to find a different route each time.
