New Opera Alpha Out!

Yeh its handy, You can hide it down to that and then reopen it again, gd if you want all your task bar back when working on something but dont want to close opera. :)

The ironic thing is if you close opera in any stage you can carry on later anyway it opens everything back up how it was again. Making that feature apart from hogging memory pretty much redundant! I think i've used it twice! The icon in the system tray is pretty useless too, nothing i can't do in opera already without the icon...
 
I don't have any but i'd hazzard a guess they are stored somewhere in %appdata% just type that into a windows explorer window, go to opera and have a check from there on...

Ok thanks will check that out.

This version of opera is a lot better in terms of memory usage, I have the exact same tabs open on 9.2 and this 9.5, and memory usage is about 20mb difference

Doing the same. I'm seeing about 30mb difference between 9.2 and 9.5 in the favour of Kestrel. :)

Yeah it does feel better. I'm quite impressed with the stability (so far!) of this supposed pre-release alpha. If this is what Kestrel is like now......:D

I haven't fully switched to Kestrel yet with stuff like bookmarks and the Speed dial yet to be done. Might do this sooner rather than later if I'm seeing significant memory savings.

Anyone know any cool/quick ways to get the search engine settings from 9.23 to 9.50? I mean the keyword search engines. Got a load of them in 9.23 such as "w manchester" for Wikipedia etc and I'd like to see if there is a way of doing this automatically rather than faffing around manually.

Thats because the memory isn't actually used by opera itself its something to do with windows. Same with a lot of other software when minimised. Windows overheads cause the extra memory to be flushed when minimised... I can't remember exactly why right now, but i've read something on this matter somewhere :)
 
I've got one Opera Window open, and 8 tabs, usually have 30+ tabs, my memory usage goes down by 1% when I minimize it.

It's a memory leak, oh noez!!!!111

Memory fragmentation. Applies to Fx too - and it's where the lion's share of the "leaks" come from these days.
 
Btw done the searches for 9.5. Quite impressed with Kestrel. Just seems quicker at loading pages.

I've turned the Speed dial page off. Hardly used it really. Just see a blank page now.
 
I don't use speed dial all to much, but i don't bother turning it off because it doesn't do any hard as in it works like a blank page, its no slower to load up and i get 9 shortcuts to webpages...

I will agree though it could all be in my head, but it seems a LOT quicker, and Opera wasn't any slouch to begin with... Still i'm having trouble enabling inline find its really annoying me now, any ideas? Also i wish my wand worked :mad: does yours?

Didn't turn it off for speed. Just because I don't use it.

Inline find. CTRL + F? Seems OK to me.

And my wand works fine. I just use the CTRL + Enter thing instead.
 
Inline find ctrl + f3 pops a box up for me :mad: usually you can reset this in opera:config and turn inline find on, but its not there anymore! So i'm doing without atm, i'm trying to get used to using the "." and "," shortcuts instead but its old dog new tricks, my brain won't learn...!

My wand works i've set it to a mouse gesture as usual :p (I've have allsorts as gestures) but it inputs the username fine then a blank password and submits the form (so i obviously don't log in annoyingly). It's obviously a bug, maybe something to do with me using Vista? What are you using?
