ARGH Flippin' fanboys - you are warned - it's a rant

Mate this thread is about you...get the hint.

i thought it was about ps3 fanboys

there's plenty to be annoyed about if you are a ps3 fanboy

*console was delayed, and even after all the delays graphically it hardly blows the 360 out of the water does it?

*console originally very expensive (£425 on release)

*Not that many decent games

*poor console sales (3rd place)

*expensive bluray

takes cover as flame throwers a lit

360 > PS3

and the first reply is this!!!

All fanboys are awful from both sides (sometimes balanced discussion comes out the wrong way though unfortunately) so dont just blame the Sony lot!!

All 3 "new" consoles have a presentation style all of their own, they look completely different and do different things better than the other two. Supposedly the wii is only going to be a fad - but I dont buy that at all, its made its own success and good on N for doing that (I still think its too expensive for the tech you are actually buying but thats something else)

The other two are much of a muchness and the more balanced of us have actually tried both, and get on with both (even if it doesnt always come across)

I thought the term 'fan boy' meant they never saw a bad thing about their console? Therefore your list means **** for the fan boys.

The Wii has less quality titles than the PS3 and is nearly as expensive as a Core 360, I already said that in the next 6-12 months there will likely be a surge of really decent games, but right now it's a desert for decent gaming. A good 80% of the Wii owners I know stopped playing it after about 2 months and are waiting for new titles to renew their interest.
I flat out disagree with this:
- The PS3 is just as lacking in quality titles as the Wii is.
- The Core is gimped to such as extent that if you want to make the most of the system, you have to spend at least £60+ more. No one that i know has bough a core yet.
- Try now, and especially in the next 3 months.
- The same can be said with 80% of PS3 owners. Most people i know have either sold theirs or just use it to watch Blu-Ray films.....

Surely you must agree in that situation, it would have been a smarter move to wait 12-18 months for a decent library of games to start filtering through, and then pay the inevitably lower price for the console instead of paying launch price, only for the system to sit gathering dust for a year? That's what I'll be doing.
This could be said about ANY console EVER. Almost every console has a long games drought after the initial few launch titles have been expended. This gen is no exception.

I'm all for 'different' when it comes to gaming, but 'different' still has to equal 'fun' and right now there are shedload of 'different' games, of which about 1% are also 'fun'.
Your definition of fun maybe different to mine, but there are plenty of well reviewed and fun games on the Wii. As well as some exceptional ones. To name but a few:
Zelda, RE4, Mario Strikers, Wii Sports, SSX Blur, The Godfather, Mercury Meltdown, Excite Truck, Wario Ware, Madden, Tiger Woods Golf and Rayman.
OK, only 2 of those are true AAA titles, but the rest all reviewed in the 80's-90's mostly. I feel the Wii gets a tough time of it compared with the actual quality of the games. I think this is largely due to the 1st party being so damn amazing. People expect every game on the system to be so good and when they are not and are merely solid titles then they get all too easily overlooked. Mainly by the hardcore this is, software sales for the Wii show that this is not the case in general.

I wasn't suggesting that EVERYONE who's bought a Wii is an idiot, but the sheer volume that have been shifted don't currently reflect the value of the system, so there are a vast amount of people out there who've bought it simply to 'buy in' to nintendo's marketing.
You bought one because the price suited you and you personally felt that the games you were going to get would be worth the cost of the console right?
Well you know about games, you've done the research, your decision was based on fact.
Again i disagree. The sheer volume shifted accurately reflects the value of the system. This value is dictated by each and every consumer individually. A purchase is made when the perceived value is greater than the retail price. The people that are buying the system are doing so because they believe it is worth the money. Even just Wii sports justifies the price point for a significant amount of people.

What Nintendo have done, is made it a 'must have' item and marketed it towards traditionally non-gaming demographics, who don't know about gaming, don't do the research and decide based on the adverts alone.
Clever marketing, hats off to them for managing it.
I agree that they have marketed the item brilliantly, however, i would be willing to bet that the majority of the sales of the system are down entirely to word of mouth. I know lots of people that have bought a Wii after playing on a friends. This has nothing to do with Nintendo's marketing, but simply to do with the fact that the system is an absolute blast to play on. As has been said many times, Wii sports is the first video game that i have ever got my parents to play. It is just so accessible.

The general gist of the post is that you shouldn't come in a thread about "fanboys" (damn i hate that phrase) and then slate a different console because it makes you no better than the workmate of the OP. Just because you do not see the benefit of a given console, that does not make it any less a worthwhile purchase to someone else.

It hasn't. The industry doesn't see them as rival consoles. The wii has a poor attachment rate for games, however the console sells in its millions, this is because it has attracted people who aren't interested in console gaming to get one for games like Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training or Wii Sports.

Nintendo could quite easily go and make a new console next year and release it.

Where have you found any attach rate details for the Wii?
At launch in Japan, the Wii had a much higher attach rate than the PS3. SInce then, i have not seen any figures.
What i have seen is people on various forums claiming that it must have a low attach rate because theres no games and its all casual gamers buying the system that don't want anything other than Wii Sports. Game sales have time and time again proved that this is not the case but never mind. If there are some attachment rate figures to validate your claim then i would be very grateful if you could post a link to a reputable source, as i won't accept it until i see it.

I agree, Jihad and Neocon are the two biggest offenders imo
Hardly, I don't really care about either anymore, only decent games coming out on the consoles this year for me is Mass Effect/Halo 3 [Multiplayer].

Too bad my 360 is going to break playing them probably.

actually Jihad it was a little unfair of me to tar you with the same brush as neocon. Your normally a complete PC fanboy or at least you try and talk people out of buying a PS3 to upgrade their PC instead!
