And with Scarface... I think the original is really superior to the Pacino version, far better acting and far more believable. And IIRC it has a great car chase scene.

If you like Platoon, and Defoe, then you might like 'Saigon', also called 'Off Limits' (USA, crap title).

I thought this was a great war film, certainly better than the IMDB rating suggests.

It's not from the point of view of the soldiers, but military police. There's a slightly weak murder plot, but it's made up for in intensity and entertainment.

I'm a huge fan of Vietnam war films and can appreciate both Platoon and Apoc Now in their own right. I love 'The Heart of Darkness' as a read as well so the film appeals to me. I think platoon is good for the set pieces and action but then that's what it's all about.
