Oh btw how do you access the PS3 over a network?

I've got mine connected with gigabit. is that actually any good?

sid

I've no idea. If it's online and it downloads stuff, then it works >_> Have you tried the connection test on connection settings? What NAT number do you get?

Thats fine

I was more interested to see if you can copy stuff over network to it.

I have no idea. I'm not an expert on networking and file management on the PS3 :) I do know it streams from PCs effortlessly which I'm sure you've found out by now.

You can't, at present the only thing the PS3 can see from your Internet is streamed media using a DNLA compliant client (ie WMP11). There is no copying of files between PS3>PC or vice versa. Gigabit won't be useful atm as I don't even think the PS3 supports a streamed data rate that would trouble a 100MB connection. (Plus the use of a slowish Laptop SATA HDD in the PS3 becomes the bottleneck easily before your data would reach the gigabit connection).

I love these, people go on about sepc, how big Sony is blah, how good 7.1 sound is, how fast PC games can run, nobody has even mention gameplay, I find PC gaming to be expensive for what it offers in terms of gameplay, you might get 2-3 amazing games for the PC that are well coded and looking and play amazing, but the price of upgraded just because expensive after a few years to catch up.

The PS3 has got classic AAA titles coming out for it in the future which I think will show it to be as good as the 360 games that are out now or are coming out in in Q4, but like I say price is a big factor in gaming, £300 for my 360 on launch and in 2 years I have had my moneys worth.

I still need to 1000 point revenge...we'll have to have some old fashioned multi player pileups again soon I think!
I'd grab revenge from your local game shop, most likely to be a s/h copy sitting there for something silly like £15 :D

waaaay off topic,

when you do, dont forget to drop me an invite :D i still need 2 achievements on the damn thing! see if we can get roser, fruit, monkey, chadd etc on it too :)

If you find it expensive fair enough mate.

But for some types of games like FPS/RTS you hardly have any other choice.

I think they cost the same anyways. you'll pay more for games on consoles, accessories, and with 360 to play online.

Even if a good pc costs slightly more, it does a hell of a lot more than any console so the price is justified.

And as far as I'm concerned consoles also only get 2-3 amazing games so realy no difference there.

There are a great many silly arguments and debates here, such as 'GT5 can't be done on a PC' - yes we are all aware of that, but people forget that each platform has their own exclusives and benefits, rFactor and GTR anyone? I could have sworn that guy was trying to talk from a hardware capability point of view, but using certain games as a definitive reason as to why one platform is suddenly God over another is quite silly - especially when said game hasn't even been released yet.

Then we also have the bluray isn't on PC (Japanese language) argument - I suggest people do some research before they post.

What are you guys all trying to say? Everyone has different tastes and uses for the platforms, yet a lot of you seem to think we're all using them for the exact same things and reasons. Here's a small reminder: we don't. This is where your 'X platform is better than Y platform because it does Z better' argument falls apart.

If the PC could play GT5, Tekken, had a good easy and intuitive to use online system, i wouldnt own a PS3. Fact is it cant, because sony/whowever wont let them. therefore to own simply a PC is not viable if you enjoy good games. dont talk to me avout LFS, when it outsells a proper GT game i will consider it to be something more than a fringe pretender.

brand building exclusives+ease of use keep a console in business. nothing else.

You keep referring to rigid examples, while ignoring that the PC has a vast (albeit slowly dwindling) library of games as well - people seem to forget that in terms of online services, capabilities and accessibility, the PS3 and Xbox 360 still have a long way to go before they can be as fluid as PCs are.

therefore to own simply a PC is not viable if you enjoy good games.

Rubbish. There are many people who own just PCs and spend a lot of time playing on games and enjoying them. The combined three console sales only recently overtook the amount of subscribers to World of Warcraft for example. Tools and utilities like Steam and X-fire shows that there is a thriving PC gaming community, as well as cyber-sports events that focuses on such games like Counterstrike and Painkiller.

dont talk to me avout LFS, when it outsells a proper GT game i will consider it to be something more than a fringe pretender.

I don't use sales figures as an indicator of quality.

2 of those ARE on consoles, and in mine (and many others) opinion, there are some stella titles he's listed. PGR4 is part of the greatest driving franchise ever made, Kane and Lynch looks great (as does Army of Two), PES2008 WILL be amazing, Mass Effect is the only game that looks to challenge Bioshock for game of the year, Assassins Creed is one of the most anticipated games of recent years, Gran Turismo 5 is part of the second greatest driving franchise ever and Halo 3... well, that will be an amazing online experience that will better any of those you names up there.

End of day pc's are better.
Rofl at this thread.

Such a poignant and well thought out argument cannot be refuted!

Someone close this thread now ;)

All of which look pretty naff to me. Crysis has done absolutely nothing to impress rather than being pretty. CoD 2 and 3 bored me to tears so, unless the 4th is a whole lot better, I expect the same for CoD4 ,and Airborne, while pretty fun, is an album filler at best.

TF2 looks promising, otherwise everything else on my must buy list is for the 360, ps3 or Wii.

A console is better than a pc.

Why?

Because all games in the lifespan of the console will be playable in the high quality they were designed. And the life span is usually a good while.

PCs need to be upgraded to play the latest games. As things move along, you'll need a new graphics card, maybe then you'd need more RAM. Alternatively, You could drop the graphics. But then you're losing out on quality.
