10 golden years

I wouldn't say they were that imaginative or had much impact on gameplay, nice and gory, though :)

Perfect Dark on the other hand: A machine pistol that could lock onto multiple targets and take them down in quick succession. Assault rifle with a mine spottng secondary function. Laptop gun that could be thrown onto a surface to become a sentry turret. Being able to fly rockets in first person from the alient rocket launcher. The Farsight being able to look and shoot through walls. A machine gun that could become a mine when out of ammo. Plus a whole host others. Best arsenal in a fps. No competition :)

Yes, I love PD's weapons. It's a shame the game lagged so much with many sims running around.

Dont get me wrong Nokkon, i dont have a problem with you, never have.
But that opinion that you just put right there, is very arrogant.
You do mostly put across a non-bias viewpoint, but to think that your word is gospel....i think you need to come down from that cloud your on.
No offense like. :).
lol, I knew someone would bite, didn't think it would be you though! :D.

Im not gonna argue about this Halo vs GoldenEye issue, its been covered before, and this thread aint about Halo, its about N64 games. :)
I wasn't doing Halo vs Goldeneye, Halo was so revolutionary in its own ways such as AI, graphics, audio, soundtrack, environments both interior and exterior, usage of vehicles, squads, weapons, character design, controls and co-operative play.

Some of those are still unbeaten now (Soundtrack, Co-Op, Vehicles and Controls).

For me it was the same routine as well, either everyone round to mine or to a friends house straight after school. On weekends we used to go to the shops and get some munchies before the big goldeneye sesh. Good times.

Hehe we used to call them N64 festivals. Always the talk at school. When are we having the next N64 fest and who's house will it be round. Then all the PSX kids were sitting at home by themselves playing FF7 ;) . Good times. Now it's sitting at home after work playing online with people you can't even understand ><.

I think Halo had much more influence than Goldeneye in modern FPS. Regenerating health system, indoor/outdoor levels, vehicle operatability, separate grenade usage mechanisms and limited weapon system are some examples. Just my two cents.

Goldeneye is a legend in its own right though, I think somebody else said it best, it was the game that bought FPS to the front room.

Regenerating Health, well thats not really much of an influence as a lot of games dont contain it, its just preferance for each and every game, to be honest it wouldnt fit in the storyline with most games..
Goldeneye had indoor/outdoor levels?? So did many games before it.
Vehicle operability had already been done too, in Goldeneye... It was also a big part of tribes wasnt it?
Seperate Grenade Usage was also in games already, but thats just preferance for each game too, where some they choose not to adopt it and some they do.

Halos only real accomplishment was bringing online to the console mainstream, along with a cinematic storyline on a new level.

Nothing else has beaten goldeneye in terms of FPS multiplayer.

Everything else since has become over complicated or too realistic. Saying that I actually find goldeneye the most realistic aiming of all FPS because as a whole its quite difficult compared to a mouse and keyboard combo. The only negative about the game is the framerate in some situations - but that can't be helped. The only thing that comes close is Team Fortress Classic, another game which has fairly simple play mechanics.

Both allow intelligence and human nature to rule over technique. Although the latter helps.

I agree about framerate problems, Perfect Dark is worse though, iv tried to play a few times over the past years with my friends and i just give up and stop playing because its too blurry and too unresponsive.
CS was a worthy successor to GE+PD to me as I moved onto PC games, though its died a gruesome death for me now, I hope something as brilliant as GE comes along soon cos im REALLY bored :)
