When jews pass away

I did hear a joke about them being buried like that so the money didn't fall out of their pockets, I never actually "got" it though.

lmao

Jews are into money big time, They deal in Diamonds, It was one of Hitlers reasons for slaughtering them they had a lot of power in Germany with businesses and money.

It's called sitting shiva. Clothes aren't ripped when they hear the news, one outer garment is ripped at the funeral. While not bathing, parts of the body can be washed, but not with hot water. Also commonly mirrors are covered in the house. This is only done by first degree relatives of the deceased.

They rip an item of clothing when they find out the news. It's called keriyah. They then wear that same item at the funeral. Shiva is the 7 days of heavy mourning that follows the death. They sit on the floor or stools rather than chairs, don't wash (often not at all, but you're right in that they can clean... areas!) don't shave or cut their hair, plus the other things already said.

That's followed by 30 days of mourning in which they don't shave, cut their hair or listen to music. They also don't go to gigs, concerts etc for 12 months after, as I found out the hard way after buying my mate tickets to a gig and he refused to go :p

Indeed they only go to these extremes when it is a close relative that has died. It's still stupid, but meh everyone is entitled to their beliefs. :)

To the OP: Anyone can technically be buried vertically. They do it in some areas to save space. There is nothing in Jewish law that says or even mentions it though.

I guess different customs for people give different times for keriyah. Sholshim is the 30 days after the burial but shiva takes the first 7. The only reason to continue mourning, afaik, beyond this is when the death is of a parent.
But I guess some people might do things differently.

I always believed they were buried standing up after a relative told me that was the case when I was little and I had no need to challenge it. I was well shocked when someone else told me that it was a reference to their being 'careful' with money and wasn't actually true.

I red this topic and lol'd irl. I was expecting the OP to ask where they go when they die. Good start to the day, thx.

Total garbage. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

There was a little bit of that, you have to search through a ton of websites to find any mention of it though.
But it in strict terms the Nazi Doctrine declared them "socially unacceptable" and "unworthy of life", along with gypsies, spastics and the mentally ill.

Not to mention the 3 million plus Russians that were murdered as well.
