2900pro 512bit Interface Confirmed.....by HIS

Any idea if I would see any performance increase if I moved over from my BFG 8800GTS 320mb to one of these.

I game at 1680x1050 mainly so I think my current card with only 320mb is holding me back on this resolution.

What are your thoughts?

Depends on the game. If it's something like Tom Clancy Ghost Recon then you ought to see a difference with the 512Mb of the 2900 pro as you gain about 30 fps going from the 320Mb to 640Mb GTS however the 320Mb card still does 30 fps so I can live with that.

I find that in 95% of games there is no difference between the 320Mb and 640Mb cards at 1680 x 1050 - well maybe 1-2 fps.;)

Bioshock 50-70 fps, MOH Airbourne 50-70 fps and even Colin Mcrae Dirt (30+ fps) runs like a dream on my 320Mb GTS and thats everything maxxed out.

Don't forget the memory leak thing is now fixed in the latest beta drivers.

However, I can see you may want to change if you happen to be playing one of the games where you do need more than 320Mb of memory and you aren't satisfied with your performance.

But I would wait for the 2900 pro cards to come out and see how they compare before buying one. It might make the 8800 GTS 640 Mb drop in price anyway to give you an alternative upgrade

However, if it's in most games you feel your not getting good performance then I would suggest it is something else in your system holding you back eg memory, cpu etc.

If you want to post some fps in some games you play, I could compare what I get on my system.

Thought i would see what kind of difference you may get from a pro and an XT at stock speeds and IMO these pro's should be snapped up asap as they give great performance at stock and if you can get the extra 150 on the core to hit xt speeds which you should as the pro is an XT, all i can say is its an absolute steel.

THanks for the comparison! :) It does look a treat. I imagine the core will be pushed close to the XT which is good news! Mem should be easy to match and surpass however

Its a short term product and as such only a few thousand will be available world wide.

Its basically a bargain from ATI to just upset NV by releasing a product that matches the 320MB 8800 GTS for less/similar money and has the scope by overclocking to outperform the NV part.

I find it hard to beleive that ATI is only going to sell a few thousand. Seems more like a marketing ploy. O there wont be many *everyone buys ATI's cards* o we decided to keep selling them.

Haha yeah, wonder if the XT owners are fuming. :D

Nah .. they are thinking ... if it does clock to XT well, get one, flash bios to XT and have crossfire ;)

Makes no odds to me, I am soldiering on with the dodgy (XP) drivered XT until the 9800 comes out, then it will be time to evaluate :D

That ought to be enough for a couple of months. How many 8800GTS cards are sold every month worldwide?

Don't forget the "new" 2900 pro comes out in November so why bother making shed loads of them.

This is just to sell some cards and stop people buying 8800 GTS for a while. It's just a temporary stop gap bargain IMO.

Ahhh ever the senseless skeptic Dave :D

Yay i got a title. So if you brought out a card that totaly smashed Nvida's offerings in the price bracket would you stop making it?

or would you say its limited edition then continue to sell it. Which has happened to quite a few tings where they said they would only make so many and then relised they sold very well.

Im being realistic not skeptic... this time anyway.

And senseless? Everyone is intitled to their opinion as long as it can be backed up then it is not senseless, just not the way you think. I think i have supported what i said well enough as the fact they will make more profit this way.

:EDIT: ill think up a title for you ;)

These are just being released for now to get some new cards out, and to grab some sales from the GTS until they re-release it on a 55nm process in November, no point making more than a few thousand when they are replacing it in about 8-9 weeks, plus releasing it now on their 80nm process means they can release it early.

We will humbly wait for thy 55nm proccess ;D

Am i correct in the assumption RV670 is not ment to be ATi new top end card ?

if i am the 55nm 2950pro is going to be a cut down version (256bit Interface that people though the 2900pro would have), if not it will beat the 2900xt easy.
