Hey guys,

Can any of you tell me if the "silver" surface of this mouse is that glossy plastic crap that eventually fades, or is it a smooth/solid finish like my MX518? Mine has about had it and I fancy one, but I hate glossy mice.

Sincerely yours,
Ulfhedjinn.

Well, i haven't had mine very long so i can't tell if it will fade, but it seems to be quite a smooth/solid finish. Although i have a feeling it will probably fade over time, i think it is painted/sprayed on. It isn't glossy :)

I might just take a gamble and buy it, if it fades then it fades. It's not like it affects function.

Just been looking at some larger pictures though and it does look less glossy, can't tell though.

I've had mine for over 12 months and the silver hasnt faded at all. The Logitech logo is all but gone though.

G7 should be out soon...
Can't really wait to be honest, my MX518 is really on its last legs.

I'm sure that the G5 will do everything I want it to do, I'd buy another MX518 but I don't see the point really. Might as well go one step up if I'm buying a whole new mouse. :)

I've had mine a year, and it gets a lot of use. It's not faded, I have removed some of the colouring and make it shiney, but not fade.

Gone and ordered it, specifically the 2007 edition. If it fades, I blame you lot. :p

Can't blame me!

Mines...urmmm...an edition....don't know, all I know is that I bought it in Spet '06, the 'G5' logo has faded a bit, but actual fading of the main colours etc. has not happend.

That's the one I'm using.

Hehe, enjoy, mines 1 button version. I really wanted a mouse with two thumb buttons, but at that point they didn't do one :(.

I'm not too keen on the blue styling, but then I wasn't hugely keen on this one either, but now love the looks. :)

Quite like the blue styling myself, but no doubt I'll miss the "gun metal" look of my MX518. :( I agree with you about the two-button thing too, it's one reason I chose it (or I'd have to change my browsing habits! :D)

The one i have definatly isn't gritty in feel or movement, mine looks the same as InvaderGIR's. I only got it a 2 weeks ago though. I think the movement and feel are very smooth. I expect the surface will wear just like most mice when they are used a lot. I'm very pleased with mine, definatly the best mouse i've ever used :)

I've had my G5 about a year, the finish has a matt look to it which is not smooth, although the left finger button has gone slightly smooth through use it still retains its colour - I like the fact the mouse can be weighted down as I dont like featherlite mouses like the intellimouse series. The G5 is the best mouse I have used so far, if I needed to replace it I would go for the G5 2007 edition which you have chose. :)

I don't expect the finish to last forever if it's not a solid plaastic fascia like on the MX518, so "slightly smooth over a year's use" does sound reasonable as that's about what I expect from my keyboards.

I know what you mean about the weights too, that's one thing that drew me to this mouse. Never had one before that allowed you to adjust the weight and I'm dying to see how it affects comfort.

Also drawn to the fact that it has a sensitivity indicator, hate playing with the buttons to fix it when I accidentally leavy my MX518 on the wrong setting. Always wished it could tell me which one it's on.
