Hi all

I just got a WD3200AAKS hd, installed XP ok drivers the lot
but it seamed slow.

I used HD tune and it says the HD is in Mode 5 (ultra ata/100) ?
This drive is surposed to be udma mode 6.

I have changed the Sata cables still the same.
I have gone into the bios and set it up like the manual says to.

I have got a IDE hd on the one and only IDE channel could that cause this?

i got the latest bios for my P35 DS4 and drivers..

thanks in advanced

EDIT I have just tried WMdata lifeguard and that says Ultra MDA 5 Active ??

Its the Chipset drivers that do that, I adopted SATA early on a NF2 Mobo and I was about 1 year in UDMA5 until Silicon Image updates Bios/Drivers.

It wont affect much but the burst rate on a single HDD.

now you have said that i will email intel as well

thanks dude

EDIT i just looked at the manual again and its says things about AHCI ?? should that be on?

If you installed XP with the SATA controller in Legacy/IDE mode (ie no drivers from a floppy) then don't turn AHCI on, the PC will just blue screen and fail to boot. XP needs specific drivers to use AHCI but you can't load these without having AHCI enabled and you can't boot with AHCI on to allow you to load them.

There are workarounds if you have multiple SATA controllers but it's a pain and there's not much benefit to be gained from using AHCI.

Thanks rpstewart for that, looks like i will have to wait for intel to sort the drivers out :(

EDIT ok in the bios i have 2 AHCI options

1 is for turning on ahci or raid for sata features such as command queuing and hot plug
2 is for -port 0-3 native mode (intel ich9r southbridge)
disabled=allows sata controllers to operate in legacy mode
enabled = allows sata controllers to operate in native mode.
enable native ide mode if you are using xp/2000

that what the manual says i got the last option turn on ??

Just an update for people with the P35 DS4 mobo.

I put the HD on the gigabyte Sata and the HD ran in mode 6 ??
BUT because i have an IDE HD and a DVD writer on the IDE channel it wont
boot from the GA sata.

I have emailed GA and i am waiting for there advice.
Looks to me the Intel sata needs a Bios update.

will keep you posted
