Fastest motorist to be sentenced

I dont know what the braking distance would be be 250M sounds optimistic. You're travelling at 80 meters every second.

I think I read one of the more respected tech guys on here (entai?) say that it takes twice as long to decelerate from 120-60, as it does to decelerate from 60-0.

Based on the assumption that the M3 braking figures were accurate (they didn't seem unreasonable given that today's speed limits were based around a 70's Princess IIRC), and doubling that 34m for 60-0, and doubling that 68m for 180-120, meant a 238m total. It's not unreasonable to believe that the 997TT with 20% more power would be equipped with equal/better brakes than the M3.

An opinion based on a lot of regurgitated facts and stats, and happy to be corrected, but I'd bet a tenner to charity that the actual braking distance is closer to 250 meters than almost half a mile...

On another note, I keep reading people making reference to VMAX? What's that?

Nice to know we now have plenty of space in our prisons...

This is exactly what I thought. We're letting dangerous criminals go early so that...

...we can put motorists in their place?

I know he was doing a ridiculous speed - but the whole thing is just retarded. What about the guy who escaped prison for paedophilia?

Speeding > Child Molesting... apparantly.

whilst you do have to say 172mph is incredibly fast, just think if he had hit another car going the other way, would be a collision of over 200mph...

I think this one got put to bed as well.

IIRC, a head on collison with say 2 cars doing 60mph is not a 120mph crash, it is a 120mph closing speed, and a 60mph impact speed, apparently the energy and momentum of the 2 cars doing identical speeds (I'm not sure, but I'd have though size and weight would affect this) is equal, and similar to hitting a wall/immovable object at 60mph.
