Best Throat medicine

Dequacaine lozenges from the pharmacy. Like strepsils but much stronger. One of those and you can swallow a brick without feeling it :)

I've had so many horrendous sore throats its not true!! And sometimes NOTHING seems work! I'd say leave a few days and then if its not gone see a doc (though you seem to say you can't) as if its bacterial some antibiotics will help. I've had one sore throat (we're talking left me in bed unable to ski for 3 days) which was helped by antibitiotics. Or the doc may say its ulsers (which i had in france a few months ago, soo bloody painful to eat, cold water was the only pain killer that worked!) which are helped by the gargling with salt water. And i've also had viral infections, in which case the doc will tell you to rest and that he can't do anything! For that i was taking 600mg ibuprofen (a perscribed dose for me) and paracetamol and two throat sprays and about 3 or 4 different kinds of losenges!! It still hurt like a *****!!!

Anyhow, wishing you a swift recovery!!

Best cure for this.

Vodka!

Should kill all germs and keep you happy at the same time!

Works for me!

:)

You think that its a good idea for people to go and see the doctor every time they get a sore throat or a cold? Should we go every time we get headaches as well?

The only time you should go to the doctor for a sore throat is if it looks infected or has been painful for a week. Otherwise people with actual medical problems can't get appointments.

If the guys in so much pain he's having to post on OcUK about it to try and locate a cure then yes, it probably is a good idea to get it checked out. Chances are he might need a course of antibiotics or similar if his throat is phlegmy, and contrary to your belief, seeing your GP does not deny cancer patients treatment.

Calpol, any excuse to take this stuff, it tastes so damn good :p

lol, someone else who loves Calpol! If it weren't for the paracetamol in it i'd drink it all day long. I love that stuff. The childrens Calpol though, the junior one tastes like crap.

No, but getting antibiotics for an infection that WILL clear itself fairly quickly (unless the op has AIDS, Lupus or any other immuno-compromising condition) is contributing to the global antibiotic resistance which will really screw us over. For instance, there are now strains of Vancomycin resistant MRSA... which means your ****** as Van. was the only current effective treatment. Drug resistant strains of TB are also rife as are Clostridium difficile.

GPs (and vets, interestingly) are renowned for prescribing antibiotics even if not needed either "just in case" or to shut the patient up. Added to the factor patients rarely complete an entire course really limits the ways to tackle future infections/epidemics.
