NOT Happy, Tyre + Idiot Advice

my tyre has been similarly damaged but slightly deeper but it is not to the steel tyre wall, will it be ok to do the 80 mile trip home etc since i have no way of replacing it before then? if it isnt losing air it shoudl be ok right :p??

Some chick did something similar to me, she assumed that even though I was doing the 40 limit and going straight and her in a lane that goes right, by indicating left it means I auto disappear and she pulls out.

Could have been a lot worse had she been very ignorant, we stopped and she was on phone to her bf and then said to me I deny everything. I got a bit frustrated and asked for her insurance at which point she just got off in her car after refusing to exchange insurance details.

I did nothing but worked out better because the damage did not affect the drive in anyway. The rim edges were mashed after grinding the curb and the rubber chipped but I used the tyre to its last days with no problems.

But she wasn't really totally in the wrong, just sounds like you *both* weren't paying enough attention (you came off worse unfortunately), so no bad karma...

I agree with the above, its rough that you have damaged your tyre, but it could have been a lot worse.

You say "I'm going to go check the pressures later on today once they've cooled down a bit", does this mean that you could have been driving a tad fast, beings as your tyres are hot, if you were driving slower, could this of been avoided ?

my view (as a learner driver) is that using the right hand lane when going straight on on such a roundabout is completely unacceptable. Only time right hand lane is used for straight over is on a dual carriageway where there are 2 exit lanes. Of course, seemingly nobody follows the basic rules of the road and I'm often left wondering how most of the folk on the road ever passed their test

No. The air pressure in tyres increases with only a small temperature change. The mere act of driving raises this temperature, especially the act of braking because brakes are essentially heat engines. Even a drive to the garage to check the tyre pressure can raise the pressure.

Tyre is shafted & needs replacing without a doubt. (sidewall blow outs are not nice)

I often go straight over roundabouts on the left, especially in my artic! but, often in my car, too.

Unlucky dude.

I did change the tyre in the end (the day after), was taking it on track the week after and didn't want to risk it.

I don't agree with the 'I wasn't concentrating' bits, obviously I was otherwise I would've hit the side of her car, it's quite a tight roundabout when two cars are on it so you need to concentrate on your line around it t avoid confrontation... the picture provided isn't very good, but as far as I can remember back even before I started driving I haven't known anyone to use the right hand lane to go straight over.

Its over now though and in the past, I have been more careful now on that roundabout, so something has been learnt I guess, down £80 but meh the world continues to revolve.

Roundabouts wern't explained to me much in my lessons, I had to pick it it up after passing.

Theres a junction in Northwhich where the main exit to the M6 is past twelve o'clock and there are two lanes from the town centre and it even says on the road right hand lane for M6 (3rd) and the 4th 3/4 exit and the left for left turn and straight over. But most dizzie women in there 1007's just carry on round and pull in, I have a near miss every week. :(

*edit better showing bottom left is town centre exit

i was gonna say but its already been picked up on, theres a few roundabouts where i live where the right lane is usually the proper lane for going straight on... then again it totally depends on the layout of the roundabout.

good luck getting it sorted tho :)

I think the real story here is that a Pug 107 is faster round a roundabout than a Clio 197 :p.

Unfortunately you have to drive defensively at roundabouts, always expect the other car to be in the wrong lane, not know which exit their using etc. My favourite is seeing cars that take the left entry lane no matter what exit their using and the impending chaos as they cut infront of those trying to leave at an earlier exit.

Guess her bf failed to tell her that its a requirement to exchange insurance details. Should have taken down the plate, and reported her.. Or even exaggerated a little, and said she didnt even stop :P

Ive had exactly that on a lesson, i was in the left hand lane to go straight on, some woman come in the right hand lane and also went to go straight on, she beepd her horn at me as if i was in the way.

Even my instructer said i did nothing wrong she was in the wrong lane, this is why i hate roundabouts + ive noticed most peopl dont even signal which just makes it worse

Its about as clear cut as can be as far as I can see. She should not have been going straight on in the right lane. How anyone can even attempt to justify otherwise is beyond me.

No it isn't, you can use the left lane for going left or straight on, the right lane for going straight on or right. They both should have been paying more attention to there surroundings.

Lol, I live in Northwich, you're talking about the roundabout at the top of town near Tesco's. Always been a nightmare that one, doesn't matter which lane you pick, the bod in the other lane will be wanting the same junction as you. Just get your foot down, don't eyeball anyone and have it!!! :D

Roundabouts are the most dangerous places to be on the road, I ride very defensively on them when on my bike.
When I'm in my car I just leap on at high speed, belt round and aim for the exit. I usually win when playing roundabout chicken, I drive an old 406 estate and have no problem trading paint with nice new beemers or mercs :D
