FIFA 08 Official Thread

not sure what team to be in manager mode, did a few games as sunderland but i dont like them, then tried it as marseille but dont like them either :p, im like this in all football games.

What are you guys doing? Being a top team? Or a crap/lower league team?

Lol, im the same here. I support Arsenal, but couldnt choose out of Portsmouth or Yeovil. I went for Arsenal in the end

problem is, i would be the team i support (man utd), but i will finish mid table anyway on semi pro lol. Might have to try amatuer for a little bit.

You create an avatar on the EA site, you can decorate him how you want etc.. by the points earned from your rank. This avatar is then shown in the lower right hand corner of Fifa when you play.

This may have been covered elsewhere but i will share what i have just done.

I agree with the slow pace of Fifa, it isnt particularly quick. Change the view to DynamicV2 and its zoomed in which appears to make fifa quicker. Looks a lot better too.

I can think of only one tenuous link each between those games and FIFA.

Neither is anywhere near enough to decide whether or not you will like FIFA.

I'm with Wedgie on this. Neither of those are similar.

Personally I love the new Fifa (and I've not liked Fifa for over a decade), I think it's cracking, especially online.

Whoa, big statement. I love football but fifa 07 was rubbish, 03 was just crap. What i hate about all of them is the delay in the reaction from the players. Is the new one better?

If you absolutely adore PES, then no... if your open minded then yes... this years Fifa is miles ahead of any Fifa game from previous years :)

I'm slowly getting used to the way this new Fifa plays, I'm doing Manager mode with Swansea...

First game, conceded in the 20th minute... was 1-0 down until the 88th minute when a cross and goal mouth scramble game me a 1-1 draw.

Second game, scored about 18 minutes in with a looping header from the near post to the far post from a corner... broke away quickly from the kick off, got trapped by the defence, passed it back to my midfielders let off a low rocket shot... back heel deflection from Duffy and the keeper is stranded for 2-0 up with no more than 20 minutes gone. Second half and a stupid free kick and it's 2-1... I get onslaughted for almost all of the second half, another quick break away, shot hits the bar... they break away and score 2-2 it finishes.

Third game... 1-0 defeat
Fourth game, 2-0 defeat
Fifth game... 1-0 defeat
Sixth game 5-2 win (cup game)
seventh game 3-1

I've upgraded my fitness coach to around the grade 5 mark, sold most of my useless players or young prospects (well, at around 40-50 ratings they're not going to see much first team action).

Brought in 2 new defenders, 3 new midfielders and a new striker. I'm well into the season and I'm sitting in 6th place at the moment, a win would take me to 4th :)

Normally I'd whack it on the hardest setting, play Manager mode and run away with the title, and win all cups I'm in too...

Thoroughly enjoying this years Fifa :D

well i've never own any pro evo game. Only the i played was 10 years ago. And never love fifa no matter what it was. Never sit were with me but that pro evo experience was so much more fun than fifa. I really don't know...

It's definitely worth downloading the demo to try it out for yourself anyway :)

Most of us never liked the previous FIFA's (well, for a fair few years anyway), but are really enjoying this, its not the easiest game in the world, its going to take time to master it, but it undoubtedly has the best on and offline modes for a football game. Be a pro is fantastic fun, proper fun challenges, the demo lets you sample it all, but its hard locked to one difficulty setting which is probably too tough for the beginner, i never scored in about 20 games in the demo.

I haven't tested this yet but is there a camera view that pans out more than Tele? I used to use Wide on PES so i could see most of my players resulting in easier passes etc.

I find using the Pro cam gives good results because its always behind whoever has the ball, its quite nice for picking passes out, but moreso for doing the skill moves, i find it quite hard to do these on the tele cam.
