Whats the big deal with Halo?

bad move, in letting you control the arbiter.
I had the most fun playing as the arbiter in Halo 2. Although I've only played bits of Halo and Halo 2, I also didn't see anything special in them. They had no atmosphere, not very exciting gameplay and really average guns.

That said, the multiplayer is actually really fun

I hold my hand up to admit that I did bash Halo 1 on the PC (even though I accept it was a poor port) and halo 2 in another Halo 3 topic.
However, I've really enjoyed the SP aspect of Halo 3 and I am now of the opinion that Halo 3 is probably the best first person sc-fi based game I have ever played.
You really do have to play this game online; this is where it totally shines.
Ranking up and being able taking screenshots of your games are very nice features as well.

i dont get why its so popular either, its just a really slow paced fps with crap weapons and art style

first time ive played halo ,and im impressed ,graphics wise im not sure?
they are good but i thought gow graphics were better?

but then again ive turned my tv colour settings down so its not that bright.

So what's the deal with Halo?
</Sienfeld mode>

I think in my opinion it is the pinnicle of FPS on the console, and is just a great Multiplayer game!

I still prefer FPSs on the PC - but multiplayer halo + beer + TONNES of snacks is the best night in with friends ever!

GOW has better graphics because it is played in a pretty small environment. Halo 3 is huge compared to GOW, so the graphics aren't as good.

Thank you for justifying your place on my ignore list. I just wish I couldn't see when people quote you.

He is right though.

The OP made a thread with the "question" to justify his post.He then went on to totaly **** the game off, knowing what kind of responses he would get.

I wouldn't dare go into the PC section and create a thread slagging CS or WOW.Do you know why?...................because i couldn't care less about those games.I know they must be good but its not my thing.

But people seem to think everyone should know that they hate certain popular games.

So please put me on your ignore list too.

Whats with the attitude on this board, his opinion is as good as any. What do you want, everyone just to agree with Halo fan club. I myself am still undecided about it, going to try multi player tonight which could sway me either way tbh.

I must admit, Halo 1 & 2 are in my 3 best games of all time, alongside Gears of War. But Halo 3.... Why Bungie? You have KILLED IT!

Played it round a mates house before buying, and completed it in 3 hours....
And the multiplayer.... they've crammed way to much into it for my liking.

RIP Halo

What do you expect though? Hundreds of thousands of people love Halo and always have. There are a lot of people that dont like it, but i would say the majority do.

I can agree with this guy and can see where he is coming from. I too was in the same boat. I completely hated Bioshock and still do, but many people really liked it and i didn't think it deserved the ratings it got. Its just the way it goes. Its nothing to do with being in the 'Halo Fan Club'. People just like the game and want to defend it.

I have similar thoughts to the original poster and I've come to the following conclusion:

- I've been spoilt by 10+ years of fantastic PC FPS games.. Great stories (Halflife, Deus Ex), great online/LAN multiplayer (Team Fortress, QuakeWorld, Counterstrike) and even great co-op (Operation Flashpoint, Serious Sam). Many gamers haven't had this oppotunity.

= I joined the Halo party pretty late. I didn't have an Xbox and my first taste of Halo was after Halo 2 was released. I went to stay with a friend and over the space of a week with played through in co-op and then had some 8 player multiplayer action. Co-op was OK, but it didn't amaze me after my PC experiences. 8 player multiplayer was also fun, but no more than any other game in 8 player mode. I'd heard that it was the Best Game Ever and it didn't live up to the hype. Maybe the original did when it was released?

I also have issues with anyone who says that the story is great. Master Chief is the blandest protagonist ever and the whole universe seems very bland and cliched. The character swapping in the second game was also a low point in story telling for me too. I relaise that it's still better than Quake but how old is Halflife, which wees over it from a great height?

Halo is popular simply because it's great fun. It provides the most challenging and in depth combat i've experienced in any fps, pc or console, and for co-op (now 4 player online :) ) it is easily the best around. The multiplayer is varied, accessible, and ridiculously addictive, and the forge and theatre modes are awesome.

:p, running around just shooting people mindlessly online, with a crappy community full of 10 years olds, yeah thats an in depth combat system lol.

Unless you ment in single player? (Even though thats just as un-indepth)

Thing is, i've been a long term pc fps and clan gamer since the original Wolfenstein and Halo still utterly blew me away at release. It is still the single player fps with the most depth to its combat that i've experienced. The shine may have worn off over the years, but the gameplay is as solid as ever.

well thats all it seemed when i played halo 2 online.

Maybe its not most of the time, but im just trying to make the point that the combat is not in depth lol

Well personally I also find Halo 3 a bit disappointing. Very repetative, poor vehicle control, awful team-mate AI and a list of other gripes that I really can't be bothered to list. It's still a goodish game, but there's so many other FPS games that are so much better than this.
