Whats the big deal with Halo?

Now that is something that gives it an edge over any PC shooter. It's a brilliant social game.

How?
when you can do the same over a lan which i used to do almost every weekend.
Once played 24+ people on quake2 ctf in the same room had a blue row and a red row facing each other one of the best games i played for a very long time.

because getting 24 pc's into one room and 4 360's are two slightly different things.

Not at all - as mentioned above i've been playing in pc clans for years and years. I started on the original Wolfenstein and have played virtually every fps on pc or console since - fps are what I enjoy the most. Everything I said about Halo still stands. It's the most in depth and challenging single player fps there has been.

More depth than Deus Ex or the outdoor levels in FarCry? How about something like Rainbow Six or any other "tactical shooter"?

the reason its a big deal, is because people have been reporting that if they say its crap, master chief comes to them in there dreams and rips off his green suit and starts lapdancing on you and he has a 11 incher.

Different generations.

N64's Goldeneye was fantastic. But as said, It doesnt touch Halo 3.

Just in the way I dont think Halo 3 touches Unreal Tournament 2004 onwards on PC. But then that'd probably be opening a can of worms right =P

Please fire up a Nintendo 64 and play Goldeneye 4 player then. The splitscreen, the crappy graphics, the slow framerates, and everything just outright sucks compared to Halo 3. You must be having a laugh, seriously.

If Goldeneye was released as a retail game, it would get flat out 1/10 scores everywhere. Some peoples' rose tinted specs here need a good polish. Pardon me for dissing it, because it is an absolute legend and must not be forgetten for its contributions to the genre, but saying it's better than Halo 3? Pu-lease.

I completed Deus Ex over and over and loved every minute, but the combat was dire. A different kind of depth, perhaps (in an rpg kind of way), but the fighting wasn't nearly as involved. Far Cry was a cake walk compared to Legendary, even on the hardest setting, with woeful and extremely predictable AI. It never asked more from the player than point and click. I'll give you that the early Rainbow Six games - with all the pre-planning and whatnot - are more tacical. I should have said situational awareness, use of cover, weapon choice and the necessity for very fast reactions and thinking on the spot etc etc instead.

The multiplayer of Halo has always reminded me of playing Goldeneye mixed with excitement of when the first Unreal Tournament came out.

I just find it better than a PC fps because:

- Nearly everyone has a mic
- Its a level playing field
- I can play it on the tv with mates
- I have friends and co-workers who play over Xbox Live... I know nobody in real life that I could play a PC fps with.

lmfao

stop comparing ge64 to halo 3, stupid

I wasn't comparing the 2 games directly when I posted my comment, I was comparing how revolutionary both games were when they were released and how entertainined they both kept me when playing.

I felt completely underwhelmed when moving from the Call of Duty 4 demo to Halo 3, the way Halo plays just doesn't feel as smooth and as functional and the ranking features on CoD are far more worthwhile and actually give you a sense of progression.

Eh CoD4 on 360 is a mess, the autoaim is ridiculous and the game 100% relies on Spray and Pray. (I know Halo does too in some cases)

I like the unlock system though, however it's a PC purchase I'm afraid, the auto aim is really, really strong.

I have Halo on the PC, got as far as the flood bit, then gave up, it was just wasn't very enjoyable, amazed I got that far in tbh - guess boredom got the better of me.

I picked up Halo 3 as a mate was getting it and I fancied some more coop, but I can honestly say it was not money well spent, it doesn't seem any different from Halo, apart from flasher graphics.

a lot of people seem to get the game only for MP, I'm guessing due to the hype of the past games, where they 'made' live - but again, this part just isn't good (in my opinion).

Ah well, once it's finished with, I guess it's store credit towards something else.

Scort.

Halo 3 has worse autoaim?

CoD4 also has more tactics involved with things such as chosing which class/role to play, which weapon addons to chose and which bonuses suit you best. How you can say Halo 3 is less reliant on spray and pray is beyond me.

Well one thing's for sure. Halo's certainly got an awful lot of people talking about it.

No such thing as bad publicity..

No Halo doesn't have worse autoaim, CoD4 has far more.

Halo has loads of tactics if you're playing as a team, CoD4 is tactical yes but the fact is it's so easy to hold the trigger down and get a kill

except when it comes to lair :D

Yeah, there's no real debate with Lair, though. It's just pony. :p

Sony tried to create publicity for the game, saying reviewers were playing it wrong, but there's still only 1 or 2 Lair threads on here as opposed to Halo 3's 15 (thousand) odd.

It takes a lot more effort to set a big lan game up. With only 2 Xboxes and TVs you have room for 8 players there. That's perfectly do-able in a normal size living room. Setting up 8 PCs is a lot more difficult.
