Whats the big deal with Halo?

I don't really like it tbh... bit crap.

Graphics aren't great, gameplay is nothing special at all, the sound is a bit crap... multiplayer is nothing special.

All in all... nothing special lol. I don't see what the hype is about.

Probs put my copy on MM soon.

Generally I would agree with that for the singleplayer.

In some places the graphics actually look really nice, and in others it just looks god damn terrible. There's no consistency whatsoever. I mean literally in some places it looks like an Xbox game, ridiculous.

I'm sorry, i'm with the "i don't get halo" camp here. When i first played Halo back when it came out on a friend's machine, i thought the graphics were pretty good for what was out at the time, and the vehicles were kind of fun. And i can see the appeal of gaming on the console in your lounge with friends around, like a console should. That bit i get, along with MS Live system which no doubt is the best example of online capability we've seen so far. The MP is so so and nothing special.

BUT....

At playing Halo sp + coop extensively, i found the map levels were highly boring, uninventive and mostly copy and paste job section after section, i thought i was running around in circles at one point. The mappers are absolute pap for this and clearly could not come up with anything better to put in the maps. Most of the maps were bland at best, it was like playing doom 1 again, and even in doom 1, the map layouts were never copied and pasted.

I've always played fps on pc, and games like the HL and UT series beat games like halo without much effort, because the designers put so much effort into it. And how do the characters have any character if you can't even see his facial expressions? The storyline? ...... hello? I could probably tell you all about the storyline right now and how it ends without playing anymore halo. So if you're looking for a gripping storyline, halo is not the game you should be playing.

Why it's so highly praised i will never understand, when games with much better engines, art direction gameplay and gorgeous maps are apparently not as good? Half Life? Farcry? Unreal Tournament? oh yeah, well Halo obviously beats them hands down. I know a lot of people on this forum play fps on pc too, but to the general public with just consoles, they have never even heard of these games, and they are missing out, yet undoubtedly Halo is the king?

Probably answered my own question there.

I apologise for what could be seen as possible flame baiting I'm am so sorry for babbling offensively, it's just really irratating to hear ppl say "omg halo is the best game ever!". I've got news for you! It's not!

Alright I'm going to take the advice and get over myself.

It's all a matter of opinions. Personally I love Halo because it has a story as opposed to the many mindless shooters out there. The weapons balance is supreme and all have character.

Then there is the online aspect which is just awesome.

a story which lasts 5-6 hours? thats what i dont get.

most fps have well balanced weapons etc, i guess halo is just the cream of the crop for balanced and developed multiplayer console first persons.. otherwise compared to a lot of pc games it just looks pretty average to us.
Problem with PC games are that we get so many better than average FPS that they dont develop enough of a community, or they contain nothing new which we are always craving for.

Hi, I am going to enter the official Halo 3 thread and troll it, stating that it's nothing special or that generic FPS X/Y/Z is better. Huh? There's a queue? Oh.

Only problem with Timesplitters is the single player was average and the multiplayer was boring, anyone saying it was better than Halo is just on the hate train.

Timesplitters had humour, violence, fun and interesting SP missions, plus a very good offline multiplayer mode.

Well I thought the single player was awesome, all the different timezones...the characters were hilarious, a nice variety of weapons - Conventional to futuristic. It was great. Not the mention the fact that the first level heavily resembled Goldeneye.

And the mutliplayer is great. Me and my bro used to set up games with all rocket launchers and sticky mines...etc with loads of NPCs, it was hilarious. So much chaos...etc

It's awesome.

You clearly didn't have Halo nights/weekends with your lad mates when you were younger. It really doesn't get much better than 8 guys, 2 flags, some warthogs and booze/snacks.

Sure it does.... 1 guy and 7 lady friends :p

Anywho... gaming wise, I've never been impressed with Halo since the first installment.

Online mode is decent enough, single player is a right bore. I just can't finish any of them despite how much I will myself to.

Unreal Tournament has always surpassed Halo by a long, long way for me at least :)

Now UT online with a few mates some bevies etc is a right laugh.

Or a couple of mates around the flat for a LAN party with UT is classic:)

Did anyone ever play that Goldeneye source mod?

Seen some screenshots a year ago (someone had made all the maps from the n64 version using the Half-Life 2 source engine) and it looked sweet :D

Why's that? Because you prefered Halo?

I actually really liked timesplitters. Although I wouldn't rate the multiplayer, i'd defiantely rate the Single player highly.
