Nvidia Readies New “Ultimate” Technology

Now what would be interesting is if they enabled it for 7 series cards and I could couple my 7950GX2 with say a 7900GTX... tho by the time this comes out even if its viable I'll be moving on to G9x.

Yeah buy one now, then a few months down the line buy another, but then realise you cant as the next cards are out, and yours went out of production so theres none left. :D

Yeah buy 3x now, then a good few months down the line you find one of your cards packs up, but seen as the next gen is out, your cards out of production, so bang goes your Tri-SLi as theres none of your cards left, just like what happens with SLi now. :D

some people don't upgrade everytime a new card is out.... only people who have £££ do......

u should only upgrade when the card u have doesn't play the games the way u want it to.. not just because theres a card out....

this thread should have read nvidia rubs its hands together as they know
there are rich guys out there with no sense and will buy 3 top end gfx
cards.

Will be funny if they bring out some more gx2s. It will be called sextuplet sli.

i think in the near future we will need 2 bases,1 for cpu and motherboard and 1 for graphics.and a big cable that links em together:D

I'm sure someone's already demo'd this as a concept? You basically have an external box that takes the cards, has it's own power and cooling and connects back to the mobo. *

regarding this though, ok if you're running at an insane res maxed out but what kind of CPU are you going to need so as not to be bottle necked? Can the rest of the system keep up?

But yeah, it does look like it's aimed at people with money to burn and for bragging rights.

But saying that, if money was no object I'd sure like to get hold of one. :D

* edit: a-ha! knew I'd seen something somewhere, don't think it was this but it was ATi I was thinking of.

Also googling for 'external graphics card' brings up quite a bit, mainly for laptop solutions which is one I hadn;t thought of. Nice idea though, laptop for on the move and a nice phat external GFX card for gaming at home.

Wouldn't that be 3x GX3s :D seeing as the GX2 is the SLI on "one" card you can imagine Tri SLI on one card...

Downside is the length of the data bus connectors from one box to the other is going to have some performance impact due to the increased latency.

I have a 680i board kicking about with a 8500GT in it... might be interesting to put another 2 in there lol... specially as if they all OC like the first one I got - they do +70% OC on air.

I used to think the same, and I used to think easyrider was mad for upgrading every time something came out, but I've since realised how cheap it actually is to upgrade as long as you do try to stay at the top.

As for the topic at hand: I think that multi-GPU configurations are a waste of time and will be surpassed by single cards in no time. This 3x SLI thing is nothing but a gimmick and will only be good at 3D Mark. :)
