40Gb PS3 listed on UK website

Now lets see if MS start putting the HD-DVD drive in as standard..

There will only be a need for this if standard DVD's can't hold the required data for games.
First and formost, most people buy a 360 for use as a gaming console and the multimedia apsect becomes secondary.
Besides that, until the format war is over, investing in Blu-ray or HD-DVD is pointless.
Who's old enough to remember the Betamax vs VHS war?

if this ps3 isnt wireless, is there an adaptor i can buy to make it wireless?

looks like i can finally get my MGS4 fix (fairly) cheaply :)

Yes i do, but im no fanboy. The problem now is i already have the 360 so the ps3 is going to need to have an awesome exclusive game lineup in order to make me it get that alongside the 360.

No Sorry mate I wasn't saying you were a fanboy, its just that people who say the PS3 has no games usually have a 360, because there are a lot of multi-platform games on both machines, having both a 360 and PS3 I can see why you would say there are no games on the PS3.

If you ONLY have a PS3 there are obviously more games available to you than if you have both.

There are quite a lot of games on PS3 now but people don't realise it because they have already played them on PC\360.

They could sell the 60gb at £199 and i still wouldnt be interested, it just doesnt have the games. Waste of time and resources bringing out this lower spec model.

Its a great 2nd console, a cracking BD player and its nicer to use for general multimedia, like music and vids transferred over, not to mention the super photo playback options. On top of all that if you need it theirs the superb PSP remote play features that may appeal to some.

The upcoming appearance of this have anything to do with certain places offering 360 Premiums going down to £199?
Microsoft is bound to follow suit with official price drop to counter this move surely? So from that perspective yes a X360 will still be available much cheaper and offer its advanced catalouge of games.

The awesome exclusive games you dwell after, well you already knew when buying the PS3 they wouldnt be arriving in a hurry, my point is why moan about it. A price drop even if a new SKU is good for everyone, even potential X360 buyers with the prices likely to drop.

Wireless sucks for gaming, I can't stand the constant drops.

I used wireless for a few years for gaming, never had a problem. The ONLY difference I had was my latency was slightly higher, that's it.

The difference between a few ms of ping is nothing.

Never had an issue with wireless either, both with the 360 or Wii. If you have problems then to me it would seem to be your equipment or surroundings, not the technology itself that's the problem.

TBH if this newer revision didn't have wireless, I wouldn't buy it (I'm looking to get the cheapest PS3 available)

I was looking at the details from the FCC and the built in WiFi seems to have a higher TX/RX power and sense. Also the PSU requirements have gone down 200 mA by the looks of things. So it may be slightly better on the Wireless front, with the improved range (possibly?) and slightly improved Bluetooth.

Whilst that's true, I buy a games console to play games.

And now people are getting a Blu Ray top spec player for free, wanna price one of those seperate? Its still a bonus for the consumer even if their not big movie watchers. Same goes for movie lovers that arnt big gamers eh. Bargin both ways imo.

As for just knocking the price off the 60gb/80gb etc

Id assume several things, reports that it might only have 2xUSB sockets, could be a possibility, wifi more than likely will still be included and the fact thats its manufactured soley at a different plant possibly by a different contractor.
Such a deal between Sony and a manufacturer would have agreed unit prices and more than likely costing less than the ones Sony have used for the 60gb/80gb models.

Ha Ha reduced manufacturing costs combined with new SKU = reduced selling price = buy one if your interested but felt the original prices were to high.

Looks like a castrated version tbh.

HDD space is moot because you can swap out for a newer one easily.

2 usbs would be lame and so would removing the wifi/ card readers.

No backward compatibility would be the nail in the coffin as PS3 doesn't have enough games out atm to leave that out.

Looks like it will come in for £299 for console + 1 blue ray right? so thats a crap deal regardless

Current ones give you 2 games , 2 blue rays and 1 extra controller

So the entertainment value of being able to watch/listen to high quality film isnt worth anything? What bs

Yeah maybe br will lose - but for the lifetime of the ps3 (at the very least) I will still be able to watch all 60 movies I already have in a decent quality, without waiting for release schedule on hd-dvd

Most hd discs are under £20, so as long as I watch each disc twice or more (in comparison to cinema prices) the disc has paid for itself) and if I dont like the film I can always flog it on for £10 or so and be half way to buying another one!!!

To be fair I have been investing in both sides (even though I prefer BR) of the format war, but 66% of my collection is on the Sony side - more from luck than anything else.
