new hitachi is hiding!

I recently bought a Deskstar T7K500 hard drive. I have connected it to a Gigabyte GA-8knxp ver 1 motherboard with f13 bios. I have tried jumper config for master, cable select, 15 and 16 logic architecture and 32 gb.

My 10gb hard drive still works fine but BIOS is unable to find the deskstar. I have tried LBA and auto. Is it dead?

xp pro, but BIOS is not finding the drive at all.

The cable works fine with the other drive. Is it still likely to be a problem?? I have a few knocking about.

this may or not be the prob but there have been problems with new hitachi drvies and odler mobos ( dont know if yours is or not) basically sums souther bridge chips cant detect sata 2 hdds' on most drives this aint a problem as you can change a jumper on the back but hitachi dont put the jumper on it has t be changed software wise.

It is IDE. I might build another system to try it on another board. Or i might just return it. I think it is a gonna!

Is the drive actually spinning up when the system is powered on? Any odd clicking noises?

Aye I was going for this as well. You might have a dead drive - are you sure you can actually hear it power up?
