Royal Mail Strike Action

why is it? striking is a thing of the past, it already screwed our country over, it's a stupid, arse about face way of doing things, the negotiations failed only as a result of greed

i was about to pull you up for your total ignorance and the ham-fisted defence of your laughable point of view but I just noticed your a shelf-stacking kid and clearly oblivious to how real jobs work, not to mention envious that posties earn a good bit more than you!

How much does a postie earn then

Presumably nothing if he goes on strike and presumably even less if his action ultimately contributes to the 40,000 or more who are likely to loose their jobs. Perhaps a more sensitive and less heavy-handed approach towards dealing with this dispute would have been more appropriate to all concerned.

Well our mail arrived early today as it does'nt normaly get here till around 1PM I was'nt expecting any today as they are due to walkout at noon.
So thanks Mrs Postwoman for getting up extra early to deliver my mail, have a kiss from me

Losing £10k+ on pension payments (which RM havent been paying their contributions into the pension plan for years) is the main bugbear with people, not a pay rise. Yes 4 days out for some people is gonna hurt very hard specially those with kids and mortgages but you have to stand up for what you believe.

Like most government owned businesses its top heavy with managers, pen pushers, jobsworths and people with fancy titles that dream up crazy schemes that they implement because it sounds good, not because it works.

Theres no way in hell id cross the line over the next few days, for those that do: Sausage Chips And Beans!

For those expecting some thing through the post unfortunately your are gonna have to wait, and wait for a long time, for example the last single day strike took almost a week to catch up the backlog in a large mail centre.

Im going to town now, and on the picket line for a while. After I see whats just landed through my door (strike officially starts at noon)

Sadly though the main news channels will concentrate on the fact that the unions have rejected the pay offer. The main news channels rarely go into the ins and outs of the story.

I haven't read all involved but I have been on strike before for 4 weeks and it wasn't about the pay offer which was a nice one but at the time they were forcing us to work longer by not allowing us to eat away from our jobs (very dirty conditions) and they wanted us ready to work when the horn went. I worked in a huge shipyard and this could mean upto a 20 minute walk from the time you entered the factory, then you had to get changed into your overalls etc.

Anyway the whole thing added up to a decision that it wasn't on. We lost a months wages but we got some concessions so it was worth it.

The unions back you up financially.

I am always with the workers someone who has greviance enough to loose their wages always gets my support. Those that don't strike will probably still be happy with the concessions gained though won't they. Or will they stand by their morals and say no I'll accept the lower wages since I didn't strike. Like hell they will. YELLOW!

£24000 - £28000.

Which is more than a Lt. in the armed forces.

For a paperboy.

*Lies back in the sun counting his money*

*Then wakes up.*

I'll probably earn 20k this year, but only as a result of a fair lump of overtime. 24-28k may be possible, but you'd have to nearly destroy yourself in the process.

And while I understand the ongoing fight about pensions, which I think every long term RM employee is right to worry about, the rest of the dispute is in my eyes quite foolish.

With regards to the CWU. My own personal experience of the union along with it's representatives and (in my office at least) members is fairly unfavourable. I also know that being fairly new to RM that if/when the job cuts come I stand a good chance of being shown the door whether I am a union member or not. And this strike action is merely accelerating that potential outcome and further damaging an already troubled company. So to hell with the CWU, I will be working tomorrow. I need the money. :(
