Nah I don't think they will stop supporting it because the US PS3's will still use it, the BC on PS3 is pretty darn good as it is now anyway.
2 HDMI's on a PS3? WHY!?
Actually, I'd quite like 2 HDMIs on a PS3.
At the moment I have the PS3 connected via HDMI to my TV, and via VGA to my SD projector, which is fun now and then on a 108" screen.
I plan at some point to upgrade to a HD projector, and would be nice to connect the PS3 to it via HDMI as well as the TV, for bluray viewing on the projector, but so I can still game on the TV during the day.
As for the arguments about Backwards Compatibility, isn't that always one of those things that sounds great at the time, but after a while, is rarely used?
I was worried about BC when I got my PS3.
When I sold my PS2, I kept Burnout Revenge, and a few other titles.
After playing PS3 games for a while, and trying to go back to PS2 titles on the PS3, they just look bloody awful, and I don't play them any more.
Similar situation with the PS2. When I'd got used to the PS2 graphics, and used the PS2s BC to play PS1 titles, they looked awful too.
As has been mentioned though, for some reason, you get people who seem to love to be Sony bashers. They thought bluray was a waste of time, "I want a console to play games, nothing else" extra cost... blah blah... as far as I can tell these people already have XBOXs, so should be happy with that, what's the point of moaning about the PS3 if you're happy with what you've got? They've cut some features, and done a good price cut, good for them. I'm sure they'll sell a lot more units now, without these unneeded extras.
BC missing is a shame, though hardly a biggie.
As has been mentioned, two USB ports should be more than sufficient for most gamers, and if not, a usb hub can be easily and cheaply attached. I'm not aware of many consoles that have memory card readers built in, I know I've never used mine, but again, USB ones are easily plugged in if you'd like to use them on the PS3.
The price cut is great, and about time too frankly... and as has been mentioned above, it would come as no shock if after the 60gb units are cleared, if the 80gb version magically appeared on our shores, with it's dazzling extra usb ports and memory cards readers, and the mystical BC that all the naysayers previously thought was a waste of time, but now seem to find essential.
