Did you add a floppy drive to your last custom build?

Just wondered how many peeps installed a floppy in their last custom build.... is it something out of habit?

I added one to mine, not sure why really, only used it once and cant remember what for.

Maybe it is because every computer ive had has had a floppy drive fitted of some description and a computer just isnt a computer without one and you think... "I may need to use it.. its only a couple of quid, i'll add one anyway" or am I the only one?

When will the floppy just DIE (in an affectionate way)... the thing is, it still has its uses every now and again.

The reality is, I think there is a need for a "sucessor" to the floppy and all we have is the CD which isnt the same... clunky to be honest, on Windows at least.

iv never owned a floppy and i built my first pc when i was 12 (2003) and building pc's since iv still never owned one lol

Youve not lived untill youve installed Windows 95 from Floppys :)

:D Mad fun that was, I never quite did figure out how Microsoft managed to make most of the disks just slightly too big to copy onto a normal floppy disk. It was always great when you then had to use the Windows 98 upgrade CD as well.

I've still got a floppy drive in my PC, I needed it for the SATA drivers and I'll probably put one in my next PC as well. For the sake of £5 it seems a bit pointless to miss it out especially as some of my friends still use floppy disks occasionally. :)

I have one in my latest build, used it for BIOS flash. I can't be bothered to burn a CD and using USB flash just seems a bit....... meh.

I stuck in an akasa card reader in its place instead.

I'd recommend doing the same, you don't need a FDD :)

tes allways a have a lfoppy, sometimes it is neded even now. was a case on couple of months back were a bios update in windows had gone wrong big style. has to use something on a floppy to sort it out.

Not in my latest build. Can use USB / CD to flash the BIOS now. And with Vista a floppy isn't needed to install SATA controllers etc.

Get in! no more FDD! :D

No, but opinion amongst my friends is divided as to whether you should keep one for BIOS updates or not.

I've forgotten Mish, did you have to spray that card reader the same colour as the case? Presumably so...

I didn't add one to my latest build as such, but it is just sat in the bottom of the case in case I need it. I haven't needed to use it to date..

Ive got a USB one, never used it on my PC, but is handy for fault finding on older machines. Ive also got 3 3.5" ones in a box.
