The Royal Mail basically want to disincentivise the Post Men from working quickly an efficiently. Right now what happens is when the Post Man has finished his round he can go home, so he does it very quickly and effectively, sometimes even using his own vehicle. RM want to stop that, so the Post Man will just do the round in the allotted time. Why shouldn't staff be rewarded for good performance? How does this benefit the consumer? It doesn't - just makes Royal Mail management feel like the big man because they've shafted the little guy.
I wonder if people would think competition was so wonderful if all Royal Mail's competitors were forced to deliver letters to all parts of the country as well as just the profitable routes?
