Been told my current Hifi is crap, need advice

nope. two seperate inputs. one for the sub, one for the rest of the drivers, using a passive crossover inside the speaker to feed the mid and tweeters no doubt:)

If there's just a single + and - per speaker, that's just one signal... It's all I could see in the pic.
dunno.gif

Anyway, like I said earlier technical details like that should be irrelevent compared to how it sounds though. :o

Dude you have a stero that looks like the starship F£$£"$£" enterprise. Ie it doesn't F£%£^ fly does it? Even a vahxhall sodding corsa would beat the starship enterpise on account that its a sodding real thing that works.

My point being you've got some toysRus stereo that looks like it belongs in the bedroom of a furiously masturbating spectacled boy in an arsnal vest. Grown ups have component systems that look sleek and subtle, tweeters seperate from subs, speakers that dont look like they have been sent back from the future to kill john connor.

Get a grip of yourself man! People are trying to help!

ROFL
:D

here you go http://www.meyersound.com/support/papers/amp_power.htm

Why I said that its a complex issue you probably need a engineering or physics degree to understand it. Like I said before these types of systems are aimed at people shopping in Argos where the only thing that matters is the number of flashing lights and a figure on the display claiming it will output 1000 gigawatts.

Anyway book a demo and if your system beats an entry level seperates then we will all hold our hands up. But it wont and we wont. Guaranteed.

Thank you for making it worth reading past the first 30 posts !!!.......

Do you think the message has got through yet !?! ;)

Mine are Krell watts - do they win?:p:D

I've got 2.3Kw of power (into 8ohm, 0.05% THD, all channels driven) :-)

Hmm not sure guys ;)... factor in the distortion caused by the passive crossovers in your speakers, and the fact that a typical crossover will loose 30% and upwards of the input signal as losses....

I guess with 2.3KW, you can turn the central heating down !!! LOL

I think this thread is a wind up it must be.
i realy dont mean to be insulting but when i saw the picture of the back of the speakers ie: the quality i nearly spat my tea out.
like i said sorry if it offends but come on please,we all get it wrong in the beginning but surley it can be seen to anyone.it's just junk.

thats why i think he's on a wind up.

thx jay.

you should hear the sacd version, it really is something:)

Is it really ????
In the grand scheme of SQ I don't think the CD version was anything special. For sure it was "the" disc that launched the format in the eyes of the general public..... I have it on vinyl, and "20bit SBM" I think it's called.... Never moved me to try a SACD version.
The multi channel "surround" effect has not convinced me either.

Maybe it's the power conditioner that take 2.3KW ! ;)

700W subwoofer panel
4x 2 channel poweramps (75W per channel)
4x 2 channel poweramps (125W per channel)

True ratings, not 75W, 10% THD, into 6 OHM DIN, single channel only.

I'd agree with that, there isnt much that lends itself to a multi channel conversion, save DSOTM and tubular bells lol. brothers in arms is pretty sutble with the surround steering and it works well. But i was actually refering to the 2 channel SACD layer - its very crisp and clean and a good improvement over the cd version. i dont suppose even playing the SACD layer that it sounds anywhere near as good as the cd would on your system though lol :o

Makes my measly 1.2kw pale into insignificance. :(

The irony is that living in a flat means i can only really listen at very low levels so as not to upset the neighbours.

I'd agree. SACD can be very impressive.

Comparing my Sony SACD to my Cyrus CD7Q the presentation of the former is far smoother and more 'analogue'.

However, the Cyrus presents the music better IMO. It creates a more believeable soundstage and has a good deal more drive and power, but i suppose it should do when you consider it cost around 4-5x that of the Sony.

I'd love to hear one of the flagship SACD players. They must sound pretty awesome! :)

oh yeah im sure they do. i'm only using a ps3 to play mine, and its far from ideal when the ps3 doesnt output native DSD. at the moment, its having to transcode the DSD on the fly and output 2 channel 176.4khz PCM (5.1 with sacds). im sure if they worked on getting DSD bitstream working that it would be a marked improvement.
