FIFA 08 Official Thread

There's a lot of love for Fifa in here, something I never thought I'd see. I have to admit I wasn't overly keen on the demo (though it was an obvious step up over previous incarnations). I might have to get the full game at some point to see if it's as good as everyone is making out.

It's far from perfect, but I really appreciate the effort they've made and the leap they've taken with it. I felt PES2008 felt like the same game and I'm disappointed that the biggest change made to any gameplay mode is changing from 16 to 20 teams in Master League.

Easier said than done with the stupid cut-back in PES. Apparently it's been stopped in PES2008, so that's good.

Cut back works in pretty much every football game, it is possible to stop it in Pro Evo with some aggressive marking, but I agree some people try to use it too much, but once you stop them then they really have no other idea's about how to score :D

It was never a method I used that often when playing online, probably why I had such a good record, I wasn't using the methods most people were used to defending :)

I would say get it, but only if you're unhappy with the way Pro Evo has gone over the last few versions. I made the decision not to buy Pro Evo well before I decided to buy FIFA. If you still think Pro Evo does the job then it's not really worth trying FIFA.

Also, I made some pretty negative comments about the demo myself, but now I've accepted it as a different game to Pro Evo (and put some serious time into it).

It doesn't touch Pro Evo in it's prime, but once you've learnt the game (and got all of the old Pro Evo habits out of your system) it is a decent game and a genuine alternative.

I can't score in the fifa demo /cry

But i do like the way the ball moves and bounces. Nice improvment over past games

I think the new Pro Evo demo is great, it's an improvement over number 6 and seems to be heading the right way (number 4 was the best in the series IMO). I'll still give Fifa a try though, it'd be wrong of me to just ignore it simply because it's Fifa, and having played almost every version on the Xbox 360 it's obvious the Fifa series is improving every time.

I shouldn't have but the number of people who know the correct answer to 'which version of Pro Evo is the best' is less than I would have thought. :p

The new version definitely seems to be going the right way, the demo seems like a big improvement over 6. Only long playtesting will determine how good it is, though I love the achievements that have been announced for it. They dump all over Fifa's achievements IMO.

Sorry this has probably already been asked in this thread but I couldn't find it, but which bit of the EA site do i need to sign up to, to get the replay uploads working?

I have already link my gamertag through skate does that help? Is there any settings I have to adjust in fifa?

True, I want to see achievements achieved in the football game. 30, 40 yard goals, keepers saving a certain number of penaltys, scoring from a corner..that kind of stuff!

I can't even get the ball back once I lose it, not until either

1 - They score
2 - It goes out for a goal kick or throw in.

Fifa's achievements are good, but predictable, which is a shame. However I'd expect the next Fifa with a full Be a Pro mode to have some excellent ones.
However, I would definitely agree that PES2008 has by far the better list of achievements.

I know, especially considering the ones EA always put in the Madden titles, I could think of an incredibly good number of achievements for a football game :(.

With the type of 'football' PES2008 is playing I couldn't give a toss about the achievements in it tbh. These ones in Fifa are vastly improved over 07s ridiculous grinds,a crossbar challenge one would be fun though. :)
