and I was wondering if you have to wear starter studs or can I just bring my own earring and wear that straight off the bat?

Depends were it gets pierced. You would be surprised how quickly piercings can close over. If i were you id give it at least a week or two before you change the stud for either one of your own, or a ring or what ever. When you do change though, make sure it is sterilised or what ever, just give it a boil or something as you want to change it over so early, it can(and possibly will) get easily infected.

Thanks for the reply.

Would taking out the stud to wear the earring for half a day, and then putting the stud back in be fine or am I risking the same closing over/infection (after having sterilised, that is)?

off topic (sorry!) but where in gravesend are ya from? i#m by Sainsburys
You're the 4th person I know on here from Gravesend... mini-ocuk-meet ***! :D

Well, if you sterilise it, it 'probably' wont get infected, but it may close over. They can close over SO quickly it's stupid. You can push a piercing though the closed over bit, but I wouldn't recommended it lol

Lol, I live on Wrotham Road, near the Primary School. About 10-20 minute walk maybe?

I'm actually in Hull at the moment, a year away. Can't say I miss Gravesend all that much. :P

You're in hull.... and that is a year away........ and you say you don't miss Gravesend... HOW BAD IS THAT PLACE!!! :p

Lol, I'll admit, Hull is pretty dodgy in itself. But after 18 years of drunks, gangs, people bleeding on your doorstep, chav attacks, drug dens and other youthful goodness, you start longing for a change.

Haven't been attacked here yet, although I probably just jinxed it. :P

You can take anything with you and they will sterilise it for you and put it in. Usually it is best to use the one you get with the piercing though as they are often a good quality, use a material that is less likely to cause a reaction and of a size which is easy to get used to.

You don't want to remove whatever they put in for at least a week, more if you can help it. As said when they are fresh they heal over VERY fast and are prone to infection. It is best to leave it alone as much as you can, only going near it to clean it. Best stuff to use for that is Savlon "pink top" spray and a cotton bud. Not to mention it will probably be sore!

When I had mine pierced I had it done with a ring, but it is at the top of my ear.

I think he's being sarcastic! get to bed Ghosteh :D

I know wrotham road =p
If it wasn't for all the Indians, Chavs, and Chavvy Indians, Gravesend could have the potential to be a nice town.
I work in the Thamsegate (old Angelsea) centre - pop in and say hi next time your down this way ;)

Good luck with the piercing. I've never had one (and don#t intend to) so can't offer any advice :(

Lol. So right about Gravesend. :x When people ask about Gravesend, the only thing that gets recognition is the Black Death and Pocohontas :/ Lame.

Hah, my mum works in Wilkinson's in the Thamesgate. What a dump.

(no offence if you work there, lol, I'm sure you're a lovely person :P)

EDIT: 1) Hull isn't bad! Chip Spice...er...Kebab Ye....er...Attic...er...drunken people fighting outside the house

use TCP or savlon spray as previously mentioned. 2-3 times a day for the first week. Personally i would leave the stud in for around 10-14 days before changing to something else.

Get it pierced properly, eith a needle at a proper bodypiercers. It will cause you a lot less hassle than getting it gunned.

Thank god some common sense has arisen in this post. Go to a proper piercing studio, they will use a sealed, one use needle to pierce, and then most likely put in either (again, autoclaved and sealed);

and will be made from titanium. There are lots of reasons you shouldn't get pierced with a gun, the fact it's totally unhygienic and that studs aren't the best idea for a fresh piercing (they are usually 9 carat gold, which the body will react with). See here.

Also, TCP, surgical spirit, hydrogen peroxide etc etc are terrible to help a new piercing clean. A sea saly solution is the way forward to clean it, see here.

You'll get 100's of people who say gunning was fine, and for some it may not cause any bad effects, but I have seen what a bad piercing from a gun will do, and it's not pretty. Get it done properly and it'll last forever.

I can't believe how much bad information is floating about on here.

Get it done properly. With a needle. Wait 6-8 weeks before changing it. Give it mild sea salt soaks to heal.

I got mine done with a gun, no problems at all? I was also given some healing solution to apply every day.

I was told something like 3 months, but I left mine in for something like 6 as it took a while to heal...but then mine is here...

The needle is awesome...My mate who got her ear done at the same time as me hated it, but when I got mine done I loved the feeling of the needle in my ear.
I'd like more as they feel so nice being done (yes I'm strange), but I don't need/want more (if that makes sense).
