Getting Ear Pierced...

I got mine done with a gun, no problems at all? I was also given some healing solution to apply every day.

Guns cannot be cleaned properly never mind sterilised. When one is used on you, it has a smattering of the skin cells, plasma, blood and more of EVERY person that it has been used on on it...

They also don't 'pierce' the flesh; they basically force a blunt bit of metal through your ear...And as they force it through your ear, it drags in all that plasma, blood and so on into a fresh wound in your skin...

Never fear...you will survive (did you have it done at Claire's lol :p as far as I know they are the only ones who provide aftercare solution)

As long as you keep cleaning with the solution and twisting you will be fine.

I used to butcher people's ears when I worked at Claire's Accessories, in the way that Penski kindly described...I hated piercing the babies though :( poor little mites.

I remember a guy came in and asked if I could take out his earring as it had been 'bothering' him...turns out the skin started growing over the stud. He hadn't cleaned or twisted.

I told him go to hospital.

If you're supplying jewelery that needs 'twisted' to stop it adhering to the flesh then surely something's wrong?

Thanks for the responses folks, although I just want clarify...

I'll go, make sure they use a needle rather than a gun, they'll do what they do and put in one of those things in Headless Chicken's post, I leave it in for 6-8 weeks to heal (washing it while it's in my ear? or do I take it out to wash and put it back in?), and then I take it out and replace it with my own earring?

Thanks.

Make sure you go to a piercing parlous and not Claire's accessories or any kind of 'jewelery' shop.

Keep the jewelery in to clean it. NEVER touch it without scrubbing your hands first.

To clean it, boil a pint of water and stir in a level teaspoon of SEA salt. Not table salt which contains acids and chemicals. You want it to have the salinity of tears.

Then decant it into a mug, tilt your head to the side (piercing side down), cover your ear with the mug, press it to your head and straighten up your head...Now you'll have your piercing soaking in a mild saline solution. Leave it there for five minutes. Once soaked, use the rest of the saline solution and a few cotton buds to GENTLY clean any plasma and blood from the jewelery.

Yes you'll feel daft. Imagine how daft I felt doing my septum or PA :/

TTIUWP

xD

Only kidding.

Thanks, I'm gonna head down to a small tattoo/piercing place down the road tomorrow and get it done. I went into some piercing/tatto place the other day in the shopping center and it smelt so sterile and chemical...y (but I guess that might be a good sign? lol)
