Whilst I'm sure she doesn't need 0-60 in 5 seconds, acceleration IS an issue becuase how on earth do you pull out onto a busy roundabout in a 1900kg 117bhp car pulling a trailer containing a horse?

A hell of a lot quicker than I do... :p

landcruiser or shogun. both bulletproof. my sis got a shogun (98 2.8 LWB) to go collect a horse from deepest wales to take it back to brum then used it to drag the horse to shows etc. those shoguns are really over engineered

landcruiser or shogun. both bulletproof if looked after. those shoguns are really over engineered

Fixed! ;)

For the budget, I really can't think of much better than a mid-90's Shogun or Landcruiser. Be sure to get a LWB (5 door) one, the SWB (3 door) just isn't as stable when towing.

Very slowly.

Indeed, unless you want to leave your horse behind, or risk damaging the poor creature.

I was following some loon with a horse box one day and they were driving like they were in a normal car. The poor horse kept staggering around as they braked/accelerated, banging into the sides as they went around roundabouts/junctions and so on.

I wanted to stop them and give them a talking to, but the wife wouldn't let me. Possibly just as well as I doubt they'd have thanked me much:(

It's probably not heavy enough but if it is a Subari Legacy would fit the bill, or I think there was a version of the 5 series estate with 4x4. Trouble is most other options will be older.

It needs to be something meaty. Anything wrong with a slighly older Disco?

;)

Every Disco i have ever driven had a very heavy clutch. For a woman to drive i would say no. Shogun/Landcruiser are much easier to drive

I have owned an old 2.5TD Shogun and although i never towed with it, it drove pretty well and took everything i threw at it.
Currently driving a 4.2TD Landcruiser 100 series and i cant rate it highly enough, even when towing it pulls very well and will cruise happily at 150kmh

Isuzu Trooper or a Daihatsu Fourtrak? They're not bad, plus they're likely a bit cheaper than Landcruisers or Shoguns.

Whilst i really loved the Isuzu Troopers, i recall that they pulled out of the 4x4 market a few years back to concentrate on trucks. This might make parts a little harder to obtain. I would 2nd the Daihatsu Fourtrack too

I'd also suggest a Subaru Forester, my sister has had a few cheap 4*4's and they've all been nightmares due to age etc..

She then got a forester, which is large enough for the Horsebox she has, and it's been very realiable, plus when not towing the box, it's a nice enough car as well with reasonable running costs..
