I knew ps3 wasnt doing to well, but not selling as good as a console thats been out for 6 years!!
But this is the thing, Sony went and priced the PS3 right out of the market, but now they've just dropped right back in it, will be an interesting few months for sales figures.

Where are those figures from mate? PS3's almost sold double the 360 this week on those top ones...

still think PS3 is going to struggle this year, prob next xmas will be their time

I agree, I was even considering getting shot of my ps3, but then with the price drop, you would be lucky to get £250 for it, its just not worth selling, toughing it out now is the thing to do.

will be interesting to see xmas sales this year, still think its going to be pretty much even on a weekly average where really the PS3 needs to be pulling ahead to be gaining the market share.

how long is it going to be before 3rd party companies other than Toshiba start producing HD-DVD players?

im hoping sub £100 HD-DVD players are going to sink Bluray for good.

no offence, just don't want Bluray to win

China are on the case, you just know when China start their wheels a rolling on cheap products, the competition starts to struggle

Chinese manufacturers Alco, Shinco and Lite-On will join Toshiba in making players, as will Japanese company Onkyo, execs announced. Microsoft may also make players, officials said, but didn’t provide further details. Car system manufacturer Alpine is making a player for cars.

how will sony counter cheap hd-dvd players?
isn't a bluray drive more expensive to manufacture?

PS3 as a very expensive Bluu-Ray player has been out for a year, where are these cheapo HD-DVD players we always hear about? The HD-DVD folk have been promising these all year in an attempt to "end" a war which they are actually losing!

HD-DVD camp have always said that their technology is cheaper. Both hardware and discs. Bizarre that Blu-Ray is still selling more. (In terms of disc sales on dual format titles I believe it is at least 2:1)

At the end of the day both camps are good at hype, but sales figures speak for themselves (even though it is early days).

I've been reading about some movies running out of space on HD-DVD too, they have had to go to Dolby Plus 5.1 rather than Dolby TrueHD or uncompressed PCM.

Now 5.1 or TrueHD makes no odd's to me, but i'm sure some people want what they paid for, HD Audio...

true, but people said the same about picture quality on betamax compared to vhs, look who won that one, surely a better picture is what most people want regardless of price in the end but it never came mainstream

This thread reeks of ps3 fanboyism...

The official figures are out on the 18th of October for all of you who care about sales.

This is a genuine question: Which are the official figures? i.e. which company or group publish the figures on the 18th?

In the USA it is generally accepted that the NPD figures are the official ones (they publish monthly I think), here I always though Chart Track is the ones that are based on retail sales (published weekly), and they were released yesterday (and is where that 178% figure comes from).

I would like to know this also cause every damn site you go on says something completely different and has differing sets of data.

yeah but when people said that Betamax titles and hardware was not selling well.

Blu-ray is selling more hardware and films then HD-DVD. So this is not the Betamax scenario revisited. There is very little in it, in terms of the technology, and people are much more "savvy" these days (I blame the interweb :p).
