Nat min wage? My pay? Help please..

Development rate?

£4.60 how can they justify such a crap rate...

no wonder the unemployment rate is so bloody high, pay is peanuts tbh... id have to work 60 hours to rake in £276? thats ****, really annoys me, crap pay, gonna have to look for a new job, i cant cope with that crap, for 40 hours i get £184, minus ******* tax, fgs i cba with that...

Get a grip

If you want more money, go get it, don't bitch about your employers pay, you don't HAVE to work there you know...

It annoys me, i work and work, i dont care about working, its something to do, i enjoy it, im a bloody shelfstacker/till worker and i also do shifts in the butchers which might earn me an apprenteship soon.. im working becuase i have nothing to do and there isnt much at college except a 1 evening a week corse i do.. I want a decent career tbh... i dont know what though and that annoys me more...

Where the hell do you work? I work at a Co-op, not exactly the largest supermarket chain in the country, but we pay £5.60 for 18+, and £4.70 for 16-17 year olds.

You would think, i still find it hard to find jobs, and i personally dont know anyone else who WANTS to work like i do, ill work 60 hours a week, i used to do it, i dont care, its ace, i love working, meeting new peeps, having a laugh, talking, things like that..

Stop reading at that point, u sound like perfect army/navy/RAF material tbh.

They keep the minimum wage at a level that is feasible for both workers and the employer.

If the minimum wage was higher, employers wouldn't be able to afford to employ anyone, so more people would be unemployed.

You can't really complain.

You may change your mind when you see WYPs new shift pattern.

7 days on... ...3 days off... ...7 days on...

I dont mind about working like that, i like working, would be good and challenging.

It's not easy to just instantly swap to a higher paid job. You don't know the situation.

I agree that £4.60 is a rubbish wage by todays living standards anyway.

Employers do so well, making so much money, while we work bottom pay, my boss had her company handed down to her, she has just taken over, kind of annoys me that does.

Employers need to pay more attention to their employees... we work hard and long for peanuts..

Im looking for a better job anyway but last night it hit me what a **** i really am... i need to find something better...

to be honest i just need a career.

James.

Do you know the store's turnover? How much of that is profit? How much of that is store expenses, wages, goods in, and other expenses? What's their budget? Not all companies "make so much money" and can afford to pay you a crazy wage an hour. Our store's turnover last year wasn't that brilliant compared to a lot of other large supermarkets, and we have one of the largest stores, if not the largest in the area. The reason your wage is so low is because the job doesn't require any particular skills, without meaning to sound offensive, but it's the truth. I started at your level, and after a year have been given the chance of managerial work in our store, which pays not a lot more per hour.

If you complain about your job, rather than doing it to the best of your ability, you'll not get an opportunity to take it higher. I was stuck for a career too, until this chance popped up, and while I may not spend the next 50 years as a retail manager, managerial experience can be taken elsewhere. :)

Well, theres a dude leaving this friday, shes asked me if ill take over his place, hes in charge of stocking shelves, keeping them up to date, making sure all shelves and the fruit and veg section are perfect, and he works fast.

I dont mind working fast but atm im learning so i aint flying around.

The company is the biggest store withing 20 mins drive of anywhere so a lot of people come here daily, they employ a lot of staff but you can always tell if they are doing well, they make a lot of money from the butchers and deli alone, you can see the cars they drive, not cheep...

I was on £3.80 last year and now £4.10. I make less than you, yes it's poo, people on benefits make more than me and people won't even get out of bed for that. In all honesty for the country we live in today with the price and cost of living, no one can live on the poo minimum wages provided.

Well there's a start, it might not be huge, but it's something. If you don't know what to do with yourself, ask your manager if there's a chance you could get a higher position, and see what her response is. If you think you're up to the task, of course. No point doing that if you don't feel you could do it yet, as you say, you've not been there long. Good luck with it anyway :)

SK07 get rid of the swearie in both posts mate!

The unemployment rate is not high.

If someone wants a job, they can get it - There are literally thousands of jobs listed, just for Northern Ireland. The problem is when you say "I don't like that kind of work" like I have been doing for the past 3 months, but now, push has come to shove, and I'm going to be doing the work of 16 year old school drop outs, because even I can't afford to live on 78 quid every 2 weeks, it's just not possible.

There are no valid reasons, other that being paralysed/missing limbs for not working. End Of.

Even at minimum wage for a 16 year old that's 122 quid after tax, maybe 100 or more after national insurance, your still going to be better off than on the dole.

Then you have scum doing the double "I have no sweat with "the govt." handing me out 40 quid a week and taking 100 odd from my uncle who employs me as a labourer for a few hours each day"

The dole isn't a lifestyle, it's meant to stop you from becoming homeless

I dont claim benifits, even when unemployed and entitled... i wouldnt dare do it, i dont wana be classed as that, i dont need the money that bad..

Not saying its a bad thing i just dont aggree with taking if you dont need..

Plus it pushes me into getting a job.

Im 21, got my first EVER job here at uni a few months ago..working on a helpdesk, its £7/h
