Is this cutting up? or am I in the wrong? *confused*

if the exit is wide enough for two cars, and long enough to pass the car in the other lane then i don't see anything wrong with that.

He only cut you up really if you had to brake or otherwise make an alteration to your driving AND he wasn't providing a reasonable amount of indication. If he just dashed in front of you and left you thinking "woah how'd he get in front so fast" then he didn't cut you up :)

Unless the outside lane is marked with a 'right turn only' sign, then either left or right hand lanes are usable to go straight over.

If you needed to brake then he cut you up, regardless of him being in a valid lane. I'll choose the right hand lane if I need to pass slower traffic, but will make sure I either accelerate enough to pass them cleanly, or filter without forcing others to brake.

agreed, however... at this roundabout... you must wait for traffic coming from the right.. therefore both people pull away leaving a "neck and neck" scenario depending on whether you are trying to out run somebody or not...

Thus, leaving two cars going into one lane on the other side... problem being, one of these cars MUST be in the right surely?

I'd have said in that instance, the car on the left (i.e. you) should take priority, as you shouldn't be expected to brake, however the car on the right is attempting to overtake when there isn't sufficient room to do so, so should drop back.

Having had another look, there is this sign as you approach the roundabout...

That's it though.

Thats good to hear... I thought I was just driving in the wrong lane... muppets.

Thanks for checking that olly, was just about to nip out!

I was taught that if your exit is after 12 o'clock, you need the right hand lane. None of this get in the left hand lane while indicating right rubbish. I don't know where this has come from, but I see more and more people driving like total plebs, not caring or knowing which is the correct lane to be in.

I was taught that in this case that the first two exits should be left lane and the last exit (and going back on yourself) is the right lane. Unless signed of course.

So, to me, you are the 'pleb' ;)

I'd never get in the left lane and indicate right. It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to me, for ANY exit.

ED: Does anyone on here actually do this??

Well, I was taught by ex traffic police, my traffic policeman brother and my dad all agree on what I've said. Draw from that what you will.

Conversely, I have also heard people saying they were taught they can use any lane as long as if they use the left lane they have to give way to people exiting the roundabout.

I see. My instructor has been teaching for 26 years.

Someone actually check the books :p

Do you, your dad, the traffic officer and Bob your mother's brothers second cousin ( ;) ) agree with that?

It's not in the books, for me though if someone is in the right hand lane and indicating right at roundabout where exit 2 and 3 are more than 180 degrees round, they're taking the 3rd exit not the 2nd.

The only case where I would take the right lane to use the 2nd exit is in the case juno_first posted.

Jokester

No, being in the left hand lane on a roundabout means you're either going left or straight on*. The only indicator you should use is your left one when you've cleared the preceding exit and want to take the next exit.

If you want to go right then you should be in the right hand lane.

You should never be indicating right in the left hand lane (unless you've made a complete balls up, got lost and need to swap lanes). People going all the way round a roundabout in the left lane are muppets.

*Unless clearly signposted that you can use both lanes to go right - such as at the Strawberry Fields roundabout on the A127 heading towards Southend.
