Where is the best place to live in Britain?

Right... where else exactly have you experienced the nightlife?

I would say Glasgow is pretty good to live in. Plenty of friendly people with good banter. Lots to do.

I enjoyed Glasgow when I visited. :)

Although, I did have a scary experience amongst lots of people in a pub watching a football match. Whew. :p

nothing wrong with where i live in hebden bridge outside halifax in the moors and vallies etc :D nice views.

i would like to live in a port (harbor) down cornwall tho like as seen on the tv program Doc Martin

I love the sea side and sea guls and the smell of fish :D

Sod off out the West Country, we have enough emmits as it is!

Seriously, so many people own homes in the WC, and elsewhere, and use the WC ones as holiday homes. Pushes the prices up and has spoilt the WC for everyone that lives there.

Still, for countryside, I love the WC, great views, clean air, awesome roads for driving, great place to live...apart from above mentioned.
I also like city life though, and living here in Bournemouth has been absolutly great, although people aren't as nice around here as they are back home which drops my liking down a bit really.

Can anyone really answer this question, after all you'd have to live in every city/town/village!

On a totally objective basis, no, probably not. Subjectively though, yes, of course. I've lived a few places in the world and visited many more so I reckon that I've got a reasonable grounding of what I like but what suits me might not suit you - all anyone can do is make a case for what they think makes hamlet/village/city/town X the best place to live and you can then judge on that. :)

In that case purely subjectively I vote Newcastle, I visited there on a night out and was thouroughly impressed by the place, my hangover did not approve of the lack of cafe's though!

Really? ...I would have voted Glasgow one of the worst.

That's understandable, the press is full of horror stories with crime, violence and health statistics but that's all easy enough to avoid. There are plenty of places with little crime and the city centre is really safe I reckon.

Um... I really should have asked why you would think it is bad before I answered I guess?

The weather sucks so it does have its bad points :p

Apparently the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire is one of the safest and best areas to 'raise a family', if that counts for anything. I live in the Forest of Dean myself, and I must say- if idyllic and picturesque rural living is your thing, then it's the best :P. With the likes of Prince Charles and Elizabeth Hurley just up the road, we're keeping nice company :p.

Of course it depends entirely on what you are looking for. I've only lived in a few places but I'll list them and give you the best of the bunch thta i know...

- Fife (lived on a farm originally and then in a town called Cupar): country life excellent, Cupar...****. Cost = cheap compared to South East.

- Glasgow - interesting, different...got that unique Glasgow smell (you'll know it if you have lived there)...wouldn't live there. Cost = fine...still cheap compared to south east.

- Canterbury...small...2 universities and a college...cosmopolitan...i like it..nice cheap pubs ( I like the 'cherry tree'). Can be expensive...can be cheap. Did I mention 2 universities? :) small town...very small...lots of students.... ;)

- Tunbridge Wells - varies from bearable to boring... cost = expensive => what's you'd expect. Don't bother.

From my experiences, it isnt Swindon or Coventry

i'd love to live near Oxford street in london (viewed a room there today... but its in high demand, prob wont get it :()
