Would you swap a 330 for a Mondeo ST220

think about the image that both cars give out aswell. ive never seen any nice lass in a mondy, but seen plenty in a ci
Can't believe you base your car purchase on how much of a chick magnet it is :D I guess you must be 18 and picking up the 16 year old skanks that think it's cool to go with someone that has alloys!

Neither car has a GOOD image, one your a Mundano driver and the other a ******

There are a few pros and cons.

A 330 to an 'average' person is just a BMW, if its a Sport model, then thats a bit better, but people still just see it as another BMW. An ST220 the sporty version of a Mondeo, and its a bit more 'extravagent' over a normal mondeo. I could see why the average driver would think that the Mondeo looks good.

When I got my tyres changed on my ST TDCi he said that he used to have an ST220 but has an M3 now, he said he much prefered his ST220 over the M3!!

Strange, its horses for corses I think, but you can't just say that an ST220 is a poor mans 330! Thats just such a simple minded thing to say!!

The relationship between them is exactly the same. The Mondeo is simply the Sport model of the Mondeo with a 3 litre engine. Just as the 330Ci Sport is the Sport model of the 3 Series with a 3 litre engine. Most people are not going to notice the difference at all. That was one criticism I had of the ST220 - it was too subtle compared to a standard Mk3 than the ST24 was over a standard Mk2.

Infact if you are talking dumb-public perception, they will think the BMW is amazing and sporty becuase it has 2 doors, whereas the Mondeo is rubbish becuase it has 4/5 doors. You only have to look at some of the inane threads we have on here where people hold the attitude that driving a car with 4/5 doors is like having aids or something.

He either made it up to make you feel better, or he's talking from a financial perspective. I love the ST220, but lets be realistic here.

Not necessarily, there was the guy on here who prefered his old Volvo estate to his Civic Type-R, in many ways I prefered my 306 to my vRS... stranger things have happened.

Money no object, the 330i would be my choice (i dont like the image mind).

Whilst the mondeo is probably nicer inside, quality is poor, i spent 3 days in a 320d last week, and i must say whilst the car itself was relatively dull, the quality really stood out inside after 3 days, esp after i got back into my ST3.

exactly!

I love it how some people fail to see things from other peoples perspective!

Actually makes me laugh!

But the funny thing about this thread is that the opinion of people do not like the look of BMW's is absolutely useless - as they would NEVER be in the position of owning a 330 and considering swapping it for something else as they'd not have bought it in the first place.

as is the opinion of most who shout 'oooh, the bmw is better than life'...?

a massive majority who post on here have never owned or driven either of the cars in question yet they follow the majority.....

why question people's opinion of one car or the other? just because someone says they would prefer the ford over the bmw.....you and many others question not only their financial status but their own opinion.

Having driven and spent many hours in both, i'd still have the ford for many reasons including value for money, looks, and the sheer snobbery that most bmw owners and drivers think they have.

Is that aimed at me? I do hope it isn't, it's no secret quite how much of a fan of the Mondeo I am. I've also driven the ST220 and as I said above, I very nearly bought one.

This doesn't change the fact though that technically speaking, the BMW is a superior car. Which it should be given it was up to double the price new.

again, in your opinion!

if money wasn't an option i'd still have the ford as i don't see it being worth double!

this is my opinion.....

you and many others on here think they have the right to tell people that their opinions and thoughts on a car are wrong.....it's pathetic!

I meant technically superior - ie, on paper - facts which cannot be disputed, rather than the subjective stuff. It is faster, it has more equipment, it is built better, etc etc. There isn't really any opinion in that.

It's the subjective stuff whcih is opinion based, ie that 330 drivers are ****'s, that the Ford is more subtle, that the 330 has better handling or that you dont think its worth double (Which would be irrelevent if as you said money wasnt an option but I digress)..

I assume by your comments you've driven both?

Nice edit. I don't have a right to tell anyone their opinion is wrong and never come out and say 'your opinion is wrong'. You'll note I said useless, not wrong. Key difference there - opinions like 'I would have the Mondeo becuase I hate BMW drivers/think BMW's look crap/would never own a BMW' *are* worthless to the owner of a 3 Series becuase quite clearly he doesn't think BMW's look crap becuase he's bought one already. How can you NOT follow that?

Perhaps you should look at your perception issues if you still think its the case I simply tell people they are not allowed to have opinions. I'd rather we didn't get into another silly situation of 'people should respect they can have an opinion on anything unless they are called Fox, in which case, every time they disagree we have to post tripe about how everyone has an opinion'.

Bottom line is that YOU perceive anyone disagreeing as somebody telling someone they can't have an opinion. This is, unfortunately, your problem not anyone elses.

Yes, have driven both.

it's just my opinion.....i prefer the ford, i would buy the ford. I wouldn't buy the BM.

What i find pathetic about this forum is the 'sheep' like opinions of most. IF the BMW is the most talked about car for a while, they will all love it, whether they have driven one or not.

I've driven a few 3 series and i found them boring. The m3 is obviously a different kettle of fish.....that's just insane (i'd still have the RS4 though).

The OP seems to have started a very broad thread without giving reasons for any potential swap? (unless i've missed it).....and the world goes ape for BMW's....again.
