Hello

I have got a Samsung 500GB SATA II drives connected to my Gigabyte P35 motherboard. Vista is booting using a Maxtor SATA drive, the drives were installed using ACHI. The drives do not use a molex connector.

Am I right in thinking that the Samsung drive should be hot pluggable and so could be unplugged whilst Vista is running, provided that I have disabled write caching on the drive, if that is needed..?

Gigabyte have written this....

Hot Plug support allows users to insert and remove hard disk drives without shutting off power to the system.

So has anyone tried this...?

A SATA HDD wont perform at full speed if it is set same as a USB stick with "Optimise For Quick Removal", it auto sets to "Optimise For Performance" so you would need use the "Safely Remove Hardware " option.
