TV links shut down and owner arrested

There might be a slight difference but it's so easy to host content remotely these days and claim to be "just" providing links. The law isn't that dumb.

Are you suggesting he may of hosted the content under pseudosites that were at face value unaffiliated to him? He may well of done, but in that case it will be up the law to prove he owned and ran the sites containing the illegal content. I doubt he did as compiling his library of links seemed a full-time job anyway. :p

If he's just found guilty of linking to the sites though I can see him getting a fine at most and moving his site to the Netherlands like so many others.

The court would need to prove he hosted them elsewhere.

Chances are the site will be back up under it's name or a different one - either way there are still many other ways of obtaining tv episodes.

Rubbish. I'm not sure about jail time but he will be raped for all his worth and some more.

Well there have been many torrent sites that have been taken down and that Scottish blokes one hosted in Germany.

I am not aware of large fines just persuasion by fat lawyer not to do it again

The 'lady' in the US got fined $250k but then she was directly uploading files and the US law has basically unlimited financial compensation for copyright infringement.

But I'm sure you can find links to loads of stories about people being jailed ;)

There was a case with a child about 12/13 being fined by the RIAA or something for downloading music off KaZaA probably for an iPod - what kids do right? I mean what the hell?

There was also a case with someone trying to sue someone who was dead for piracy or something stupid like that. I mean, what are they going to do steal his clothes and take his will? I could actually imagine that right now.

** Anit Piracy Group Steals Mans Coffin And Let Corpse Rott To Pay For Illegal Copyright Material, He Downloaded 2 Weeks before He Died **

Would be a good headline.

There are people who download movies/games burn them and sell them IMO this is a lot worse as they profit from it. These sites for personal use isn't so extreme as no one makes money from it.

Hahahaha, I've heard it all now !!

So it's ok for Warner brothers to spend £20 million making a film and then have it copied and downloaded free but it's ok as it's for your personal use..
You're dam right no one makes a profit from it, There lies the problem!

Re-read - I didn't say it was okay I said it wasn't so extreme, maybe it's still wrong but it's not as bad as making money off other peoples work.

and I'm sure if people REALLY like a film they'll buy the movie or merchandise to support them.

A thief is a thief whether you bought it from a mate or downloaded it yourself.
There is no difference in it's extremeness!

Neither is a thieve, it's a breach of copyright and IIRC. unless you distribute it, it's not a criminal offence, then all they can do is sue you.

I'm shocked it lasted so long, I'm sure he will get punished.

Was that some puerile go at my grammar there at the beginning?

Very sad day for everyone, tv links was awsome when you couldn't be bothered to download TV shows through normal means

had a lot of obscure documentaries too

Yeah! So many great documentaries on there, got to see about stuff that i'd previously missed on tv/ never even heard of before!

Yep, another reason why torrents and video sites aren't the scum people think they are.

Most documentries are only aired the once or very rarely - these help keep them alive.

And I suppose libraries should be shut down? Having a photocopier amongst all that copyrighted material...

Where do you draw the line?

99% of the videos in the youtube thread are copyrighted and this forum links to them. And probably about 70% of the pictures thread too. In fact, most of the internet is made up of copyrighted material being copied and distributed by others lol.

I live in Cheltenham and have never heard of the site. LOL
Hasn't been in the news round here either.
