Dell 2408-HC questions

Ordered my non HC yesterday.. (OCuk site said they had 3 in stock). Just got an email and apparently theyve just shipped me a HC. Not too happy really. I sent them a web note asking for an explanation anyhow.
Will OCuk get stressed out if I test the HC an send it back if there is ghosting? Or will they be fine with that?
Anyone know of any monitor stress tests i can do to see if there is a ghosting issue with mine?
Should i just do some gaming?

I got an HC and it ghosts pretty badly. Green ghosting when panning on white. Its pretty noticable to the point where I'm trying to send it back to Dell.

I think I'll go for the non HC version as I love the monitor but the ghosting just isn't worth the slightly wider gamut.

Infact, I can't find the non-HC on several sites... Not even Dell's :mad: :mad: :mad:

The Dell site talks of the E248WFP as being "value" and "basic", this is definitely reflected in the stand, no height adjust, pivot on the base, or rotation of the display (portrait mode) just tilt adjust. Also no S-Video, composite, component. And no USB hub.

Have they also compromised on the display quality?

I agree I'd like a 2nd 24" and this looks good I'd prefer the Dell over the Samsung 245B only on a warranty basis, I don't know if Samsung are as good as Dell re next day replacement etc

well i'm not 100%, but it looks like the E248WFP uses the same Samsung TN Film panel anyway to the 245B, so it should be very similar. Dell tend not to sacrifice much even with their budget models, build quality, components and materials tend to be good

Good question. I checked Dell's site again, they've made the web-page more pretty and tempting me to buy the E248WFP now! :rolleyes:

EDIT: Just ordered the Dell E248WFP from OcUK will be here tomorrow! :)

i'm almost certain it won't have, since this model doesn't use RTC to boost responsiveness. This was the problem with the 2407WFP-HC, poor RTC impulse control
 
As Baddass says, I'm not expecting any ghosting issues. I decided to hold off on S-PVA panels and just get a cheaper TN panel to tide me over for a few years; will get a better panel with LED backlighting or even OLED in a couple of years!

I've just been told CityLink have delivered the box at home, so I will try and test tonight or tomorrow. I'm expecting it to be a bog-standard TN display, I'm sure it's fine! But I'll report anything of note here! :)

Now just have to wait for the 8800GT to come out...
 
OK, very dissapointed with this monitor. The photo quality is dire, two significant faults:

1) Gamma is wrong, shadows crushed no details. No monitor gamma control to try and rectify this. The shadows are quantized and crushed. High lights are also crushed, a gamma control would fix this.
2) Colours are off and I can't bring them back into line.

The monitor is superb for desktop and gaming though.

I'm on the verge of sending this back at the moment; it claims to be Dell's TrueColour range with 92% of NTSC colour gamut.
