New to consoles! 360 or PS3

Just to mention MGS again, is it not likely that MGS4 will be ported to xbox 360 some time after the PS3 release?

It's neither been denied or confirmed by Konami but there was a rumour flying aorund back in May, and logicaly it would make sense from a business perspective.

The market is fierce at the moment and the only way Konami won't release it on the 360 is with a Sony money hat and I'm not sure they have the cash to space.

I'd imagine as Hideo Kojima is as big a Sony fanboy as they get and has refused to be involved Konami will outsource it for release maybe 6 months / 1 year after the PS3 release.

MS get the 3rd party exclusives (Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2, GTAIV chapters, Gears 2, PGR4) by publishing them and thereby taking the money hit from having them released on other platforms.

The Kojima website seems to have completely removed any mention of any MGS versions on any other console. :p

It also states that MGS4 will be coming to playstation 3 Early 2008

If it turns up on the 360, thats nice. But I'm guessing it won't hold up to the PS3 version of the game. And thats down to capacity as usual. PS3 version will have Bluray, To get the same game on a DVD9, Is going to mean a loss in quality. Whether it's purely Audio, Or texture too. I dunno, Maybe I'm completely wrong, and we'll see the games Identical and the game won't be as large as I'm expecting. Or maybe we'll not see it atall on 360

We won't know till we know. :p I say it's unlikely, Considering even Kojima Productions doesn't mention it.
From E for All interview with Ryan Patton,

Joystiq: Well, how are you handling the speculation at this point? There's been a lot of discussion about MGS4 appearing on the Xbox 360.

Ryan Payton: We like the console, it's fun and there are a lot of great titles for it. But, we're committed to the PS3. We want the PS3 to be successful, and we've had a great history with the PlayStation. So it's a PS3 exclusive title, now having said that ... questions like this don't bother me. The questions that bother me are ones like, "Are you worried that the Xbox 360 is stealing exclusives from the PS3" or whatever. I think that the industry really needs to grow up and get away from this Xbox vs. PlayStation mentality.

Awesome, So now we know :p

And I completely agree with that, The sooner people realise theres more than 1 console on the market with good points, the better. We are going to see superior versions of the same game on the PS3 or the 360 as time goes on, and we are going to see massive exclusives on each too. So unfortunately. It seems to be a case, of empty your wallets and own both:p

Which is my plan. 360 now, PS3 after Xmas.

If you'd carried on quoting that interview: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/joystiq-interview-mgs4s-ryan-payton/

I really want to get my point across that the industry is mature enough so that we can get past this. There is space for three consoles, as Nintendo has proven. There are more important things in life than the Xbox 360 or the PS3 getting exclusive titles from one another. Life goes on. But, with that said ... if you want to play MGS4 next year, you're going to need a PlayStation 3. So that's the way it works ... is it something to cry about? No.

So the year after?

I think RP2000's pretty much summed it all up.. :)

No matter what you buy, there will always be a nag at the back of your mind wondering what the other would have been like..

Personally, I'd get a new 360 premium with HDMI bundle, you can get the console with PGR4/Halo3 + another game + extra wireless controller for around £270 if you look around.. 3RROD is alledgedly fixed on the new versions, which pretty much negates one strong argument..
You can re-assess the situation in time, and part-ex your console should you wish for a PS3 later on..
The sad fact is, while consoles have 'exclusives', only having one console means you are missing on some quality games..

Lots of editing....

I really can't be arsed to get involved anymore, it's the same old argument among the same people who post the same thing in every PS3 vs 360 thread.

THE ONLINE GAMING IS FREE ON A PS3!

LOL! BIG LOL! and you can tell why its free. I would rather pay £40 a yr to play on xbox live than my ps3...

Why do people say if you can wait get a ps3!? wooot? i know wait and get a ps3 so you can play mgs4...!which i am hoping will be good!

Or go out buy a 360 and play a hell load of Amazing games....and mass effect is coming soon also! Nuf said.!

Ps3 kicks its *** to be honest, but the xbox has more and better games out at the moment... xbox's are cheeper, and ps3 has blu ray so when developers pull there thumbs out they will be developing games that no one in the world will be able to compare with.

Im ordering a Xbox sometime next week i cant wait! And a few months after xmas when the PS3's drop in pric eill be after one..

You're quite mis-informed I'm afraid.

If you have 250-350 notes to spend, and buying both isnt therefore an option, Buy a 360 - not even close.

MGS this and MGS that - wowee 1 game!

In theory, there's a lot of PS3 games out, nothing groundbreaking however, unlike the 360.

Things may change, been a good 6 weeks since I turned my PS3 on

I personally went for all 3 :D

Although I havent used my PS3 for a good ole while.

If I where to rate each console out of 10 for my personal usage it would go something like this:

PS3 8/10 Great as a blueray player, shame about the games atm..
XBOX360 9/10 Its amazing it holds together with all this fun :)
Wii 10/10 Its the only console my wife will play!

ive had both.

sold ps3 in 1 week.

360 is simply awesome.

Why get a ps3 and say yer mgs4!!!!!! when its not out for 5months.

And still it could be crap!

Yet 360 has amazing games. its Your decision.

PSN is still some way off matching Live. Not supplying a headset it a big mistake for the social side of it, as is the lack of player rating systems, unified friends lists etc..
As for the system not breaking down, it's nonsense. I'm on my first Xbox360 but my second Playstation3.
I'd disagree on the interface, I think Xbox360 has a far superior one. XMB is good, but it's not great. I do like the PSN store though.

Just because your on your second PS3 and first 360 doesn't mean the rest of the world is the same. That arguement is silly, it's been proven that the 360 has a 33% chance (possibly more) of breaking down and the PS3 was below 1% last I checked.

Apart from Kameo and Viva Pinata you mean? That only leaves PDZ which was an Xbox game, ported anyway. They are also releasing Banjo Kazooie soon.
As for first parties leaving them, Bioware went to EA and that's about it. Bizarre left because of matters I'm not inclined to discuss here.

Viva Pinata was a failure, although well received critically. Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, seriously?

Yes, Burnout is PS3 developed, but it was designed to fit in with Xbox360's design such as disc size and lack of HDD. As will any other games.
If you expect games developers to just stop making games to fit the Xbox360 then you're so wrong and you are showing a complete lack of knowledge for both the games market and business.

The initial point of this arguement was that Blu-Ray would be useful and no one at this time really knows if it wil be but when I look at Killzone 2 and compare it with Halo 3 graphically I think the evidence is clear.

Also saying that the 360 has 20 AAA titles and the only game the PS3 has coming is MGS4 is ridiculous.

What is clear exactly? That proves nothing! Comparing one game that represents the best PS3 has to offer graphically with a game that clearly doesn't show off what the 360 can is an utterly pointless exercise. Surely you can see that?!

I don't disagree. But when people go on about the PS3 not failing at all, it's stupid. My second one is faulty, but not so much I think I should send it back. Another guy reported a PS3 failure on here yesterday too.

Kameo was well recieved and still recieves a lot of praise. Viva Pinata may not have sold well, but it's a great game.

Just Halo3? What about, say, Gears of War?
As for Halo3, some sections of it are graphically excellent in the Single Player campaign. Halo3 is a stylised game, using high contrasting outlines, and bold coloured weapons. Killzone 2 is very much from a limited pallette.
Both are good looking games, neither are stunning.

Also saying that the 360 has 20 AAA titles and the only game the PS3 has coming is MGS4 is ridiculous.
My point is, the PS3 doesn't have an exclusive AAA title yet. It's going to be over 12 months before it does. There is no doubting MGS4 is a AAA title, but also looks to be the first exclusive on the PS3 that is, where as the Xbox360 already has plenty of AAA titles out now.
Both consoles do have them, but those on the PS3 are multi-format. I'm talking in terms of exclusives.
