New to consoles! 360 or PS3

That Blu-Ray is underestimated, lots of people laugh it off but I haven't seen anything on 360 that looks as good as Ratchet, Uncharted or Killzone 2.

They are both first party games, that's the comparison. These are the games that should look the best on each console as they have probably had dev kits the longest.

First. Gears of War.

Second. Stop justifying your investment/fanboyism.

Third. Be objective.

now you are mistaken, As you are comparing PC to Console, It's known very well that PC games install, So are fully compressed on disk. :)

As for the 256/256 memory.

You are dead on. Sony themselves say so.

not only that, The Sony OS takes up more Memory than the 360 equivalent.

That said though, To be honest. Its down to developers to implement hardware in the best way it can, So 256/256 memory may look worse on paper, If a developer makes the most of it, It wont show.

Dirt and Oblivion being instances where the PS3 versions are better. Shows its possible.

MGS4 is amazing looking, And with 256mb as its maximum. It's really nice.

Hardware does not account for everything.

And just so people know, The 512mb unified RAM isnt the main reason the 360 has the nicer graphics. The 360 also has 10MB embedded dram in the GPU.

May not seem like LOADS, but, it basically gives the 360 a free AA overhead.

May seem like a wierd reply from me, But I don't like looking for the bad sides of consoles, I'd rather look at the plus sides of both consoles.

As so many people say, I'm in it for the games, I hate a lazy developer, much more than I hate a hardware limitation. :p

I agree,
The two consoles are very evenly matched, they may have difference architectures, but if you read the console tech forum on beyond 3d, there are some very very good threads that pretty much show the 256/256 Vs 512 is moot, and how the EDRAM sits with things (not working quite as intended).. there are many devs contributing on there, and they seem uber knowledgeable, and they seem to think the consoles are evenly matched, so all is well..

And I'm of the opinion everyone should rush out to buy a PS3 anyway because it's hands down the best blu-ray player, nay, high definition player out there
I'd stick at it's a good blu-ray player, it's nowhere near the best 'high definition player out there'.. I keep saying this, but people overegg the PS3's ability as a total media centre, it isn't, it, like the 360 have major limitations when it comes to HD material, there are plenty of standalone high def media boxes that far surpass both consoles in that department.. TVIXM5100 as an example..

Bioshock took the ratings by storm. Mass Effect will also be one of the best RPG's this generation. Also Halo3 and online multiplayer, nuff said really.

If anyone recommends a PS3 then they must be a fanboy. Since this is the gaming forum and very, very few people deny the 360's superior games catalogue. There is also plenty coming out for the 360 next year.

out of those maybe Mass effect. But bioshock and halo 3? uhmm AAA titles yep but certainly NOT groundbreaking.

definitely right, Mass effect, Looks ground breaking. And i hope it is.

Halo 3 is a bigger prettier version than Halo 2 and 1, So although AAA, Nothing new. (yes I've played it, yes I've finished it, Yes I love it)

Bio Shock, Is System Shock lol, So far away from ground breaking, But still an AAA title. Which I love.

Ground breaking Means, Breaking new ground. Seeing things we've not seen before.

The most ground breaking game for me so far is Gears of War and the cover system. :p

Ive not played Bioshock but people here seemed to be making VERY bold claims about it. Some people were even being silly and saying its the best game ever and its the most they have enjoyed a game since they were a teen playing pacman.

Im curious as to why you think Gears is a groundbreaking game over Halo, which must be one of the best games for features online.

First. Gears of War.

Second. Stop justifying your investment/fanboyism.

Third. Be objective.

People overuse the word fanboy all the time.

I own both platforms but because I enjoyed the MGS series more than Halo I'm a fanboy. Or because I think the 360 still doesn't have anything like SOTC or original for the future I'm a fanboy.

You tell me to be objective, yet earlier you said MGS4 will not be as good as MGS when it's not even been out.

Oh I thought you meant the cover system and GOW. PDZ had the cover system before that and so did GRAW.

Although its probably my favourite feature this generation. Really works well in games like Vegas.

Bioshock is definitely groundbreaking.
Halo 3 isn't groundbreaking though.
I might put that the other way round. Halo 3 MP features could possibly still be considered ground breaking. Can't really think of anything groundbreaking about Bioshock, despite it being a very well put together game.

Halo3's MP is no more groundbreaking than Halo2's though. More and more people are preferring Halo2's MP to Halo3's.

As for BioShock, it's the strongest a story has been interwoven into a SP game since Half-Life. Excellent environments, characters, weapons. I can honestly, hand-on-heart say that I would rate every aspect of BioShock at least 9 out of 10. For me, it's the finest SP game I've played since Max-Payne 2.

Right, So it's a AAA title, fantastic game. I can agree with you there. Definately.

But ground breaking, Doesnt mean great. It means and this is google.

Definitions of groundbreaking on the Web:

* innovative: being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before; "stylistically innovative works"; "innovative members of the artistic community"; "a mind so innovational, so original"

I'm not being pedantic!

It'd just be good to keep AAA and Ground breaking separate. :p

Halo 3's Multi-player features add to the Halo 3 experience, but I wouldnt call them groundbreaking.

Forge - Probably my biggest disappointment, they were making out you could do all sorts with it when really all you can do is spawn objects, which are limited to a VERY small number. I mean come on would it really have crashed the 360 is they let you have more then 2 Guass Hog's on Sandtrap?
Also you dont have the option to place static objects (i.e make a crate unmoveable) all the objects obey the physics in the game with no option to turn it off, I mean it couldn't have been that hard to include surely? Another thing that annoyed me was that you couldnt spawn active equipment at all (except the grav lift) Rocket Races would have been SO MUCH better if you could randomly place active tripmines on the field, but oh no Bungie didnt include another feature to Forge  Which is why IMO Forge is a total joke.

Saved Films - A great addition and one of my most favourite features, but its been around for years in various other games so it cant be called groundbreaking.

4 player Co-op - Again a great addition, but Co-op has been done before.

Equipment - I'm undecided on this one, yes it added more depth and strategy to the gameplay, but I hardly ever see anyone using any of them with the exception of the Bubble shield.

File Share - One of the things I do like is the File share and is one of their best ideas after saved films.

What about the fact that the developer said it was unique compared to other games in terms of level design and the way you can tackle problems?

EDIT: your defination of grounbreaking sums up Bioshock perfectly, it got so much praise for its atmosphere and artistic direction!

Bioshock, sorry.

Have you ever played System Shock, If you have you'll see where i'm coming from. Its made by the same people who made Bioshock, and its almost the same game. Prettier graphics being a given. And set in the future as opposed to a submerged city. And you get the moral choice with the child. But other than that, Its pretty much the same game :p

FYI, I love bioshock. Not knocking the game atall. Just pointing out the fact theres differences between a AAA title and something brand new and innovative. Which i've not seen for a while.

More and more people are preferring Halo2's MP to Halo3's.

I got sick of it after the 3rd week :p It wouldnt be so bad if they just put the Melee system back the way it was and then add some classic maps from Halo 1&2 (e.g Lockout, Ascension, Midship etc) and then I would love it :)
