New to consoles! 360 or PS3

PES2008 and COD4 also (which is actually supposed to look a little better on PS3 according to rumours, don't hurt me just wait until it's out and you'll see :))

rp2000 bet me to it :p

Maybe it might but I would rather choose between these PGR4 HALO 3, PES 2008, Assassins Creed, COD4, Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, Mass Effect that whats on show from Sony.

Something I was wondering that's relevant to this thread. Does the 360 have the option to install games to its hd (for the those equipped with one), hl2 I would guess as a possible example, like the ps3?

Oh no not the splinter cell MGS arguement, MGS wins by a mile :D
See! :p. I feel MGS is a much better, story driven, fantasy game that's directed to very high standards. It's something Splinter Cell could do with and it would be better for it, but in terms of stealth etc... SC offers so much more (as does Hitman).

People argue that there is no games on the PS3 and there is a vast amount more on 360. Once MGS4, GTA4, COD4, PES2008, Ratchet, Uncharted, Wipeout HD, Burnout and GT5 Prologue are out within the next 5-6 months it won't be as good an arguement, the prices won't have changed and the 360 will still be as unreliable. Also do you really get the time to play through all these games that aren't as good as Bioshock, Halo and Mass Effect?
But 4 of those are on the Xbox360 as well.

In the long term the PS3 to me is far more capable and has showed that the AAA titles are in the works. The only ones I have seen so far on 360 are Ninja Gaiden 2, Mass Effect, Alan Wake (although coming to PC and we don't know much about it yet) and Too Human.
That's the case with everyone. Microsoft only showed games available this Fall/Winter at E3, they didn't show any coverage of future releases (unlike Sony), so people aren't aware of what's coming out. People get mixed up between not knowing stuff is coming out and assuming stuff isn't.

To be honest I'm more excited about MGS, FF13 and Versus, Killzone 2, UEDA's game, GT5 and God of War 3 but that's just my taste so buy what you want and be happy :)
God of War 3 for me. That's the time I feel owning a PS3 will be essential. I'm not too convinced all the AAA titles will deliver this time and also some of those people are assuming will be good may fall on their face too.

Well for one the PS3 hasn't seperated their install base with the hard drives so potential titles in the future that need to use the hard drive won't be a problem on PS3. I also think people underestimate the space developers get on Blu-ray and the potential it has and like I said earlier I believe future games are more appealing in the long term.
People can mention the HDD and Blu-Ray all day long, fact is, Sony can only take advantage of this on exclusive titles. Any other multi-format game must take the Xbox360's lack of a HDD insto consideration and as a result, games won't be made on the mass market for Blu-Ray or HDD until the next generation of gaming. I guess the Next-Generation doesn't actually start until Microsoft say so :p.

But the platform doesn't break down, it's quiter, online is free and soon to be matching Live, it has Home coming and a better menu and store interface.

Well that's why I'm not confident yet, Rare haven't done anything good under MS yet and their first partys are leaving them.

I'll agree with you on Killzone 2 as the developer hasn't really impressed people enough yet. Sony are pumping lots of money into that studio though. The other first party games are far too experienced and I'm 95% sure that they will have massive sales once they come out.

Why should they when the platform is non existant in Japan and when the PS3 will probably have a larger install base in Europe in 1 or 2 years? Burnout is being developed first on PS3 and then ported to 360, developers will just do that instead of catering to Mirosofts problem of saturating their market.

But thats it you see, YOU may rather play those games (most of which on PS3) but this is about the OP and not others personal favorite games. The OP if you want to play Halo3, PGR4 and ME, get a 360 if you want to play games like FF13, MGS4 and GT5 in the future get a PS3, simple as that. Or as many have said get both or all three, then you wont have to worry about which console has better games:). In the end look at the current games and ones out in the next year see what features you prefer ie free online vs £40 a year live with extra features ( at present), BD player VS optional HD DVD (£100) etc. At present if you only want to play the best line up of games and biggest game library then the 360 is the one for now, If you want a BD player, Wifi , Twin tuner PVR (coming early 08) and something to play games on then get a PS3. I personally think that the PS3 has a better and more varied line up of exclusives for the rest of this year and into next, but the 360 has a stronger game line up at present.:)

This thread is hilarious. :)

I never understand why the mods don''t delete/merge all the duplicate "should I get a ps3 or 360" threads.

If an individual game gets more than 1 thread it gets deleted or merged, yet they let these silly ps3 or 360 thread have duplicates. 99% of the time the same question is asked:

1) Should I get a ps3 or a 360
2) Is the ps3 worth the price over 360

99% of the time the same posters reply with:

1) 360 is unreliable
2) ps3 has no games
3) 360 is noisy
4) ps3 has crap online compared to 360
5) but, but, but what if the OP want's to play MGS, GT5, FFVIII
6) but, but, but what if the OP want's to play PGR4, Halo3, Bioshock
7) broken 360s are rampant
8) ps3s are just as unreliable as 3 people have had a broken 1
9) I own both consoles so my point is more valid than yours
10) You are a troll/360 fanboy/ps3 fanboy.

Same posts, same users, why are these not classed as duplicates? Do we ever gain any new information from these posts?

that is all.

PSN is still some way off matching Live. Not supplying a headset it a big mistake for the social side of it, as is the lack of player rating systems, unified friends lists etc..
As for the system not breaking down, it's nonsense. I'm on my first Xbox360 but my second Playstation3.
I'd disagree on the interface, I think Xbox360 has a far superior one. XMB is good, but it's not great. I do like the PSN store though.

Apart from Kameo and Viva Pinata you mean? That only leaves PDZ which was an Xbox game, ported anyway. They are also releasing Banjo Kazooie soon.
As for first parties leaving them, Bioware went to EA and that's about it. Bizarre left because of matters I'm not inclined to discuss here.

Do you expect the Xbox360 to stop selling? Why will the PS3 have a larger install base?
Yes, Burnout is PS3 developed, but it was designed to fit in with Xbox360's design such as disc size and lack of HDD. As will any other games.
If you expect games developers to just stop making games to fit the Xbox360 then you're so wrong and you are showing a complete lack of knowledge for both the games market and business.

Just to mention MGS again, is it not likely that MGS4 will be ported to xbox 360 some time after the PS3 release?

It's neither been denied or confirmed by Konami but there was a rumour flying aorund back in May, and logicaly it would make sense from a business perspective.

The Kojima website seems to have completely removed any mention of any MGS versions on any other console. :p

It also states that MGS4 will be coming to playstation 3 Early 2008

If it turns up on the 360, thats nice. But I'm guessing it won't hold up to the PS3 version of the game. And thats down to capacity as usual. PS3 version will have Bluray, To get the same game on a DVD9, Is going to mean a loss in quality. Whether it's purely Audio, Or texture too. I dunno, Maybe I'm completely wrong, and we'll see the games Identical and the game won't be as large as I'm expecting. Or maybe we'll not see it atall on 360

We won't know till we know. :p I say it's unlikely, Considering even Kojima Productions doesn't mention it.

I have both - Hardware wise the PS3 is better, but games wise the 360 is so far infront its laughable (catalogue wise).

If you can wait for some decent games go for the PS3 (if they ever come).

360 has roughly 20 AAA titles - PS3 has roughly ........er........er.....er

Bad form.
