Ordered! :D

i do mapping for some games, some photostop work, programming aswell... a lot of stuff with encryption and compression, hence why i bought 2x 500GB drives in raid0 to help with that.

lols i think what we are trying to get across is that the spec the op has purchased will pretty much run any game on the market without much of a struggle

Ignore him mate.

The spec you have got is a great spec, especially for the money.

As well as that, it opens up the window for a good upgrade to Quad at a later date.

Good luck with the build .

Be sure to post pics etc.

What PSU/Case is it going with?

May want to just edit that word out, just incase.

And perhaps the P182 or something?

PC7+ is a good buy too.

oops.. sorry about the language... :S

erm, i bought the PSU in a bundle with the 8800gts from a particular website and that was the only half decent psu they had...

That CPU series clocks amazingly well, a thread around here somewhere compares it (i think) against the q6 in games when its oc'd, like no difference at all tbh. Save the cash and OC. :)

well this has been ordered on a budget as a replacement for 2gb patriot LL, x2 4400, dfi LP UT ultra-d 939

Only thing im not sure about is whether it will be much on an improvment. Without overclocking, I wouldn't be surprised if, its not slightly slower.

EDIT: just been thinking about this abit more and i dont think you have actually gained anything at all with that upgrade other than the option of getting a q6600 at some point. Yes, you could OC the the new chip and it will then be faster than the x2 4400, but not £200 worth. Even if you did later decide to get the q6600, i still dont see why you would spend £200 now on .... nothing?

That was the idea... i didnt necessarily make my decisions totally on budget and was making an educated decision knowing that it clocks well... for that price... why not? either way its far superior to my current setup, i can part out and sell my current components and break out very little down...

hes made 3 posts, and you got that?

well even so, he isnt going to be able to run many games with that, the CPU barely reaches the minimum requirement of BF2, if at all... most games like that are CPU intencive. if i got that machine, it would be solely for internet and office 2003...

good luck with it
E2160 at stock speeds with an x1950 Pro running BF2 on ultra high at 99fps.

Well that and the fact that i can sell the old parts for £140... and i get a 2gb ram upgrade...

no offence but why pair a quad core cpu with that graphics card? I guess you must do a lot tasks a quad core would be justified for....? like encoding or rendering?

good for you :p

oi :p

q6600 and a 8600gt is the real mans choice of cpu and gpu ;)

WOOT

Just to update you guys... my parts arrived today, all assembled and working well. my E2140 1.6ghz is currently running at 2.8ghz, rock solid stable, slight voltage increase of ~0.4 on RAM and CPU. RAM running at 700mhz (33mhzOC) atm, gonna really push this baby tomorrow, but heres a link to my results so far
